Best Sydney Bars with a View

Sometimes the sparkling eyes of the person sitting opposite you just won’t cut it, sometimes you just want to be wowed by a spectacular view as you sip on your vino and gossip the night away. And for those times Sydney has some of the best bars around.

It’s a beautiful city, and thankfully plenty of bars have realised this fact, so that you now have your pick of countless places with a view. But these bars aren’t all created equal and it’s not just about the view, but about the ambiance and drinks selection at a bar as well (although it is mostly about the view)…

Our favourite Sydney bars with a view effortlessly combine these three factors to make for exclusive, inspiring drinking experiences in the heart of one of the greatest cities in the world. And although it’s well-famed in the Sydney drinking scene, our list simply has to begin with the Opera Bar next to the Sydney Opera House, because can you really get any more Sydney-esque than this? It’s busy, it’s buzzing, and you’ve probably already heard of it from your friends, but this doesn’t detract from its awe-inspiring charm one bit. Next to one of the biggest tourist sights in the world but still not ‘touristy’ in atmosphere, this bar is dominated by the impressive presence of the Opera House in the background and the sleek, city vibe of the people who frequent it. Enjoy a single over-priced drink and take in the view at sunset; you won’t be disappointed by the main-stream option here, for once.

Opera Bar

But after this it’s time to move on to the next bar on our list, the lesser known Theatre Bar at the End of the Wharf to enjoy the rest of your evening with a view. Here you’ll still get to set your eyes upon the beautiful Harbour Bridge and the shimmering lights of the harbour by night as you sip, but you’ll be slightly further from the crowds and selfie-sticks of the Opera House and more in the real city centre instead. Soak up the uber-cool ambiance of this water-side venue whilst exploring their stage-inspired menu with drinks named after your favourite plays before heading outside to the balcony for a breath-taking view of the sea. And if you’re looking for the quietest time to visit, check the theatre schedule to drink whilst the shows are running. You can even make a private balcony booking as a special treat; now that’s what we call pure bliss.

Theatre BarMoving out of the city centre, our list continues with hipster ZanziBar in Newtown, now called Webster’s Bar, the perfect place for sumptuous cocktails on a laid-back roof-terrace. More rustic charm than the slick styles of the harbour or Opera House districts, this garden-style astro-turfed area is the perfect place to relax for a few drinks with friends. Poke your head over the 1950s-style wall to enjoy the bustling hub of King Street below your feet and people-watch until the sun goes down and the sparkling street lights emerge around you. Then weave your way through the birdcages and flamingos and barbecue pit to the bar to indulge in a Passionfruit Lynchburg or five.

Webster’s BarOr for something completely different with one of the city’s best views, we recommend Icebergs bar in Bondi beach, an elegant, chic venue with an incredible menu. Sure, it might be too glitzy for some, but the view here speaks for itself. Sit out on the balcony and enjoy the most spectacular sights of the crashing waves and flawless sand of Bondi beach, the hills and the bar’s very own swimming pool all at once. Yes, we said swimming pool – it’s right below the balcony and appears as though it flows right into the sea – inspiring. Their drinks menu includes seasonally changing cocktails and interesting twists on your classic favourites and they frequently have live music acts playing to add to your evening. Soak up the elegant yet beachy atmosphere and sip your way through one of their expertly mixed Sloe Gin concoctions and you’ll be sitting pretty for the entire evening in your very own room with a view.IceBergs
