Brunch, bonita in Bogota!

Welcome to Calle 81, Bogota’s brunch street.  The delightful aroma of recently baked bread makes a morning jog down Calle 81 from La Séptima well worthwhile.

And yep, you’ll only find me jogging if it means getting some brunch faster! This leafy Bogota street is what Citizen Femme dreams are made of – with 5 European style brunch spots in the space of just 2 blocks, it’s the ultimate place to enjoy the mid-morning delights that you’ll surely be missing while on the road in South America.

Brot Bakery & Café

On the corner of Calle 81 and Carrera 8, you’ll find a dedicated baker lovingly kneading dough from midnight onwards, readying all of the baked yumminess by 5am for the many early risers in Bogota.  Brot serves plenty of typical egg-based brunch dishes, but their breads are the true stars.  The quality of some of them is such that you can probably expect to be waiting in line by 6.30am!  Worth it? Totally! www.brot.com.co Where: Calle 81 #7=93 When: Mon-Fri 6.30am-9pm, Sat 7.30am-8pm, Sun 7.30am-7pm

Myriam Camhi

Myriam Camhi is really the ultimate spot, with the most complete of complete menus.  Although the focus is more on patisserie, this chic restaurant offers so many delicious dishes throughout the day that you’ll spend an age narrowing the choices down to your top 10, and will probably end up returning 9 more times anyway!  Despite its elegant décor, you won’t have to blow the travel budget, even if you do end up ordering French toast, waffles, eggs, and cake! Decisions, decisions! www.myriamcamhi.com Where: Calle 81 #8-08 When: Mon-Sat 7am-8.30pm, Sun 8am-8pm

La Cesta

La Cesta, or, The Basket, naturally is big on breads too.  The owners of this cute spot spent time in New York and Germany perfecting their boulangerie style breads and pastries, and returned to Bogota with the beautiful gift of artisanal brunch.  In addition to fluffy baked goods and buttery croissants, La Cesta offers everything you could possibly want to fulfil your egg, açai bowl, and granola needs! www.lacesta.com.co Where: Calle 81 #8-70/72 When: Mon-Fri 7.00am-9pm, Sat 8.30am-8.30pm, Sun 8.30am-6pm

Masa

Masa also takes bread very seriously.  Here, tradition and artisanship are the names of the game, and the love, care and time (over 16 hours of fermenting!) poured into their dough is all with the intention of promoting a relaxed and healthier life.  If you’re going for eggs or pancakes, be sure to indulge in a bread basket too, and for a full on foodie day, visit their Zona G Calle 70 branch – this neighbourhood is the place for amazing gastronomy. www.somosmasa.com Where: Calle 81 #9-12 When: Mon 12pm-9pm, Tue-Fri 7am-9pm, Sat 8.30am-9pm, Sun 8.30am-5pm

Maison Kayser

Originally launched in Paris, and now with a presence in countries including Japan, Korea, the US and Mexico, Maison Kayser’s Bogota branch is a sure bet. The French bakers insist that their 400 breads are exactly as you’d find them in France, and the same goes for the divine selection of éclairs, tarts, and muffins amongst other bakery staples.  Got a sweet tooth?  Maison Kayser is calling! www.kaysercolombia.com Where: Calle 81 #9-85 When: Mon-Sat 7am-8.30pm, Sun 8am-6.30pm
