137 Pillars Bangkok: Suite Dreams in the City’s Trendiest Neighbourhood

In the heart of Bangkok’s fashionable Sukhumvit Thonglor district, 137 Pillars hotel is a sky-scraping sanctuary from the bustle of a big, bad city below.

Whizz up to the 20-something floor for sweet views, pure peace, and sprawling suites that blend the most luxurious in business travel and resort living. Whether you’re in Bangkok for work, play or relaxation, 137 Pillars should be your base for the best of these three worlds. And with a Season of Wellness just kicking off, now’s the time to visit.

If the pressure gets to your ears in an elevator, you know you’re on your way to somewhere special. More than 30 stories up at the top of 137 Pillars, you’ll reach floor “R” – a breezy rooftop hideaway; a respite from a busy, humid Bangkok; the relaxation after a day of hot, sticky temple-hopping. This is where you’ll want to be: it’s Bangkok’s highest infinity pool. Don’t be surprised if you find this very Instagrammable, very exclusive infinity pool paradise all to yourself. Perhaps the extra UV’s that come with being so close to heaven are a turn-off for many who prefer the equally epic second pool a few floors down. Regardless, the infinite blues of the rooftop scene are irresistible. At sunset, pad along the pool’s edges admiring the dusty pink horizons and observing the surrounding neighbourhood as it comes alive for the night.

Suites

137 Pillars reserves its highest floors for just a handful of privileged guests. With only 34 luxurious, apartment-sized suites, there’s been no skimping on space or amenities – each is suitably massive and decked out down to the details. Spacious living and dining areas lead into a plush master bedroom complete with an exquisite marble ensuite and even a little walk-in wardrobe. There’s a maxi bar alcove and a second high-tech guest bathroom in the mix too.

You might sense a bit of a split personality going on here. At first glance these suites scream business. If you’re in town for work, you’re definitely in the right place. Equally though, if you’re here for leisure, you’ll find some fine resort living in the very same space. A giant bowl-shaped soaking tub and oversized daybed on the balcony have out of office written all over them. And super king, *super comfy* beds aren’t ones you’ll want to leap out of for early morning meetings.

Furniture aside, it might just be the little things you love most about 137 Pillars. Expect the fluffiest face towels your skin has even known; enjoy a turndown service that brings you late-night cake; and a first in hotel history, look forward to toiletries that really are sumptuous.

Wine & Dine

A-la-carte buffet breakfasts at 137 Pillars feature the nice and the naughty. There’s everything from brunch basics to Thai classics. Go for light fruity bowls and freshly blended detox smoothies, or hit the lychee-cream pastries and the quinoa waffles. Whatever you order, you can do so in bulk and wash it all down with unlimited bubbles.

For dinner, try the hotel’s Nimitr restaurant on the 27th floor. This sexy space of black marbles and midnight blues serves up high-end, modern oriental cuisine with an international and often molecular twist. Tasting and a-la-carte menus are jam packed with exquisite ingredients including the likes of Wagyu beef, Hokkaido scallops and Boston lobster – indeed “a special dream” for many guests as the restaurant’s name translates in English, but perhaps not so much for those visiting herbivores.

Spa & Wellness

Wellness is a big deal at 137 Pillars. 24 hour fitness and yoga studios have busy travellers in mind, while an extensive gym menu keeps guests grounded with meditation and tai chi classes, or on their toes with the likes of body blitz and even Zumba. At the Nitra Spa, meaning “sleep” in Thai, we highly recommend the signature Sleep By Design Therapy. It entails 90 minutes of restorative, soothing bliss by way of an aromatherapy massage with some reiki and virtual reality too for balancing your energies and resetting your stressed brainwaves. Designed to induce a deeper level of relaxation and sleep, this is the ultimate bedtime ritual.

To finish off, upgrade your turndown to a “sleep down” service which sees a sleep butler optimise the scents and lighting of your suite while you enjoy a divine bergamot bath. Sweet dreams indeed.
