Reasons why travel is an essential form of self care

When it comes down to it, there’s really nothing more important than a bit of self-care, is there? If you don’t look after yourself, then who is going to?

With the self-care movement gaining pace like never before this year, we’re going to take a quick look at why it’s setting the world alight. So, without further ado, let’s dive right in and see how a spot of luxury travel can change your life for the better and why travel is an essential form of self care.

Nothing beats travel as a stress buster

Stress is one of those annoying things that has come to define modern living. Sure, we’re surrounded by loads of gadgets and information platforms that make our lives so much easier, but with this comes a constant need to be connected. When you want to switch off, but your phone is pinging you message after message about work, it can feel near impossible to let go.

Luckily, this is where travelling can make all the difference. No matter where you decide to go or what you decide to do, the break in routine makes all the difference. By being able to let go of your daily routine, you’ll be able to give your mind and body the break it needs. The end result is that the constant background level of stress you feel at home simply melts away over the horizon. Perfect for allowing you to rest and relax like never before.

Travel broadens the mind

Nothing compares to the feeling of diving feet first into a new culture, so that you can embrace everything that it has to offer. By meeting new people and exploring new ways of doing things, you’ll be able to see life from a different angle and appreciate what you have that little bit more.

Sometimes all it takes to really connect with life back home is to learn how someone on the other side of the world approaches their daily life. It’s such a powerful self-care tool that once you try it the first time, you’ll want to travel every couple of months.

It gives you time to reflect

Travelling forces you to break the status quo in emphatic style which is essential if you want to gain a little perspective on life. If you’ve found yourself in a rut where you commute to and from work and then sit on your phone in front of the TV every evening, then it can be hard to come up with a new outlook on life. You can easily end up feeling trapped or burnt out even though you have already attained so much of what you have dreamed about just a few short years ago.

By packing your bag and getting away from it all for a week, you can gain a fresh insight into what it is you want in life. This is ideal for those of you who want to explore new avenues in your life back home, or if you just want to ensure you keep things fresh and avoid burnout.

See sights you never thought you’d see

Sometimes when you travel you do it to shop or to be pampered, other times it’s just for the sheer thrill of seeing something breathtaking in person. A recent trip I took to Camino de Santiago for example. I set off from one of the small villages on this 800km network of trails at sunrise and arrived at my new home for the night as the sun was going down – it was a sight I’ll never forget. Your journey will be about far more than the luxury touches provided by the start and end points, and it will be all the more sweet, given how long you have paced the trail in the heat of the sun.

These types of experiences really make you feel at ease in your new environment and allow you to appreciate the time and opportunities that life gives you. If this is what you want to get from your next dose of self-care, then all you have to do is put one foot in front of the other and start walking!

Let Someone Else Take Care of You

Travelling in luxury is the perfect way to get away from the rat race back home and put your feet up. Just by being able to ask someone to cook whatever you want or take care of your taxis to and from town you’ll feel refreshed and at ease.

Remember that the whole aim of your trip is to come back rested and relaxed in a way that you couldn’t achieve if you had taken a few days off and relaxed around the house. Make the most of it and don’t be afraid to let someone else share the burden; that’s what these luxury retreats do best!
