Citizen Femme Hotlist: 16.08.18

Although the summer is winding down, we most definitely are not.

With our ‘pick of the week’ UK getaway, favourite accessories, calming post-sun face masks, and solutions for long-haul travel, enjoy this week’s Citizen Femme Hotlist.

STAY HERE University Arms, Cambridge

A landmark hotel located in the historic centre of Cambridge overlooking Parker’s Piece has now opened, following aMartin Brudnizki complete overhaul in his first complete hotel project. First opened in 1834 as the city’s original hotel, it brings Cambridge back on the map. A quintessentially English experience bringing the literary and the academic spirit of Cambridge to guests. The hotel comprises of 192 beautiful and ‘playfully’ designed rooms and suites, a restaurant and bar, library, valet car parking and fitness facilities. A public art project will also be unveiled in the Summer on Parker’s Piece to celebrate the hotel historical location and significance to the local community.

PACK THIS Stelar

STELAR is a sustainably-focused, luxury leather line, founded by ex-jewellery designer Lorna Watson (Dior, De Beers, Astley Clarke) in collaboration with local, artisanal communities in Bali. The primary styles within the collection are bold and brightly-coloured and feature the round drum bag, the woven tote and the fold-over clutch, supplemented by wallets, belts and tassels.

Each piece comes with a tracking number so the customer can view the journey and creation of their bag on the website, right down to the person who crafted it. All bags also have multi-functional straps for versatility and can be worn as cross-body, shoulder, tote or even bum bags.

New for August is a small capsule of woven basket bags, all completely ‘vegan’ and locally-sourced – from the natural Balinese grasses to the sailing rope handles.

WEAR THESE Annie Costello Brown earrings

Annie Costello Brown may not have aimed for a jewellery designer career, but everything indicated she would become an artist. She was raised on a barge in San Francisco Bay and grew up surrounded by artists. As an adult, she joined the San Francisco Art Institute. She imagined her life as a painter. After travelling and taking on several short-term jobs, she settled in Los Angeles and began to create jewellery for herself. It caught her family’s eye and she slowly became renowned for her creations. She then launched her own jewellery brand. Each piece is handmade to order: no surplus, no flooded market, and no dissolution of the brand. When the company grew and the designer ended up managing a ten people workshop, she chose to reduce the size of the business to keep it fun and creative.

This almost electric blue is becoming the signature of the Annie Costello Brown brand. This season, the American designer brings back her Stak earrings, made from a string of squares attached to one another, but this season in her favourite shade. We love them.

USE THIS Aloe Vera Mask

Synonymous with summer, aloe vera has become a holiday packing staple for its ability to cool even the most sun-soaked skin. Traditionally used to treat sunburns, the many proven benefits of aloe vera are popping up in skin care to add a blast of healing hydration for your face. This bio-cellulose face mask from Korean import Masque Bar harnesses the soothing, anti-inflammatory power of aloe vera, along with the anti-ageing benefits of grapefruit and sunflower extract, to cool, calm and refresh skin dehydrated by the sun. The instant results are so good that you could use it even if your summer holiday includes a staycation and at only £4 a mask this is a real treat for both your skin and your wallet. PLAY THIS Alexandra Llewellyn travel backgammon

A chic companion for every journey and destination, whether beach or chalet, on the waters or in the sky, Alexandra Llewellyn has designed a stylish leather travel backgammon board. The design has Llewellyn’s distinctive stamp on it, decorated with bird feathers from around the world and beautifully crafted in Spanish leathers.“I am continually inspired by how games bring us together and by the conversation that ensues. Time is our greatest luxury and games create a space in which we can enjoy it with treasured people. Games create a universal language” says Alexandra.

She launches three exclusive designs: Silver Pheasant feathers in striking turquoise and black leather with bright orange and yellow stones; Woodcock feathers housed in red and chocolate brown leather with red and white onyx stones; and Indian Blue Roller feathers with nautical navy blue and cream leather and orange and baby blue stones.

The brightly coloured stone playing pieces are housed in a custom box that opens to become dice shakers, revealing a leather doubling di and casino-quality precision dice. That solves the problem of flight delays.
