So what if summer so far has been a bit of a washout, it makes (finally) getting to know our summer and vacation wardrobes all the sweeter. Park your umbrellas and rain macs and revel in styling for the sunshine months.
From unicorn blouses to sunset totes and smocked bikinis, high summer is looking good. Stand by for the pieces that are worth the wait in this month’s Suitcase Hotlist.
Our fashion and beauty editor, Lisa Haynes, rounds up June’s shopping list. Just add sunshine.
Aranaz is the accessories label to watch for woven masterpieces. Arm candy doesn’t get much hotter than this beach scene tote with sea, palm tree and blue sky design to instantly transport you to vacation mode. Not just any beach bag, we’re digging those wicker handles. And if the beach scene is clashing with your outfit? Flip it to the other side for a low-key look.
Say hello to Ayla Swim if you want a bikini that’s designed to take you from sunlounger to sundowner. In flattering smocked design with contrast ruffle detailing, we’re a little obsessed with the jazzy Hana style. The smocked crop top bikini can be paired with skimpy, mid or frill smocked bottoms, but we say, go double ruffle. Matchy-matchy is where it’s at.
Picnic hamper-inspired gingham checks are going nowhere for summer 19. We’re saying check-mate to Copenhagen label, Samsøe & Samsøe’s dress of dreams. In semi-sheer chiffon with side splits, it’s a maxi dress with peekaboo qualities. Plus, it’s one of those elusive dresses that looks just as hot with dressy heels as it does with summer sandals.
How to ensure you’re wearing the best straw hat on the beach for miles (probably)? This Eliurpi braided number. The black and beige woven brim elevates the hat to incognito A-lister territory. Laced through with a wide black grosgrain ribbon, you can secure the ties artfully beneath your chin so your hat goes nowhere on windy days.
We’re pretty game for Alexander Wang’s pre-fall 19 collection, which is a little bit Bet-Lynch-but-in-2019. He’s taken denim staples, like the humble jacket and high-waisted jeans, and given them a cheetah print makeover. Go wild and wear them together, or go on the prowl in separates. We can’t wait to get our paws on the boxy fit jean jacket.
Can’t decide between shell anklet or ankle strap sandals? Get a shoe that does both. These tan leather Chyrsso sandals from Ancient Greek complete with shell-embellished anklet have vacation written all over them. With simple T-bar straps, it’s a laidback sandal that’s been given a gilded shell update. We’re calling them jewelandals – that’s jewellery-meets-sandals, fyi.
If blouses were unicorns, they’d probably be this Stine Goya stripe top. In rainbow stripes, the silhouette is all billowing floaty sleeves and cinched-in wrap waist. But there’s more on closer inspection… This high-flying Glenda top draws artistic influence from the flowing lines of altitude maps and translates them as a squiggly print across the unicorn stripes.
