She’s part of the duo that helped put luxury swimwear on the map with her label, Heidi Klein. Meet Heidi Gosman, the woman that set out to elevate the business of bikini shopping with her co-founder, Penny Klein.
“Both of us found it a struggle to purchase luxury swimwear outside the typical summer months – so we set out to reinvent swimwear shopping,” Heidi says.
The duo’s first store opened in London in 2002 and now Heidi Klein is a worldwide brand with a new Resort 20 collection launching imminently.
Heidi lives just outside London in the countryside for a best-of-both-worlds way of life: “I love being in nature but also love the buzzy atmosphere London brings.” But with global partners and far-flung brand shoots, she’s never far from her suitcase – or Hermès ideas notebook. Discover how Heidi Gosman travels and where she finds the inspo for naming her swimsuits…
What is the first trip you remember taking?
My grandfather was working in Sydney and it was our first big family adventure. We stopped in Singapore on our way there and Bangkok on our way back. I remember the trip impacting all of my senses – the smells, the food, the noise, all made for the most exhilarating experience and one that stays with me to this day.
What’s been your favourite vacation and why?
I absolutely love the Amalfi coast. There’s so much inspiration around every corner and the region has influenced many Heidi Klein designs. I also love Italian food and the ‘la dolce vita’ concept.

Where or what is your escape?
My favourite time of day is early morning. No one else is up, I have a cup of coffee and then take my dog for a walk – I just love it.
Do you get away often?
I’m extremely lucky to have a job that gives me the opportunity to travel. I name our designs after destinations that I’ve either personally visited or want to visit in the future, so travel is a key ingredient.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve taken from your travels?
For me, it’s important to try and go where the locals go and really explore the culture of a country. This is when I find the most inspiration for future collections.
Where would you travel with friends?
I’d love to go to Montenegro with friends. I was at the Regent in Porto Montenegro earlier this year visiting one of our pop-ups and the scenery is just breath-taking. The surrounding area is also full of history and places to discover. I could see us going for cocktails at sunset and laughing until the early hours.
What’s your idea of a luxury holiday?
Time with my family, coupled with peace and quiet when I need it! I love sailing and water sports, which is always fun to experience together as a family. I also appreciate the serenity of the Maldives in the winter months.
Where do you get your holiday inspiration?
I’m always inspired by research for our swimwear and try to go to places that would make for beautiful imagery, or locations where I could really see Heidi Klein being worn.
If you could sit next to anyone – dead or alive – on a long-haul flight, who would it be?
Grace Kelly would be top of my list – I’d love to learn about her colourful life.
How do you recover from jet lag?
I head straight out for some fresh air and drink lots of water both on the flight and when I get home. Staying hydrated and getting enough sleep are no brainers.
Your flight’s delayed an hour and your phone’s out of battery. How do you pass the time?
I think I would get lost people watching. I’m also always scribbling design ideas in my notebook.
What’s your favourite hotel?
I have stayed at many wonderful hotels, but in the end, it comes down to the level of service. My recent trip to the Regent Porto Montenegro ticked all of the boxes and the staff were exceptional.
What’s on your travel playlist?
I really enjoy the noise that comes along with travelling, so I just tend to take in the sounds around me. Am I the only one!?
Where next? Why?
I’ll be heading to New York to visit our new location there in Hudson Yards and I can’t wait for our annual Christmas trip to Alpbach, Austria. The Tyrolean mountains make for the perfect ski holiday.
What are your must-have travel picks?
I always pack Heidi Klein swimwear and a wide-brim sun hat to protect from my face from the sun. I also love Ligne St Barth suncare, especially the Roucou oil, which I use each morning on top of high factor SPF – it’s amazing for your skin and smells divine. I wear Sisley Eau de Campagne when travelling because it’s super-fresh. As well as a good book, I always carry my Hermès leather travel notebook to scribble down notes when I see something I love – I’d be completely lost without it!
