What To Wear For Lounging

WFH – it’s the acronym that we’re all adopting right now. And with the nation collectively staying/working/socialising/and-everything-else at home, some tactical wardrobe choices are required.

Group face time apps like Houseparty, Zoom and Microsoft Teams mean that you can’t get away with your ancient hoodie and sweatpants so coronavirus lockdown is the ideal excuse to up your loungewear game.

We’ve got the pieces that are comfy enough to chill in, but chic enough to have a virtual wine date with your girlfriends. With your dressy wardrobe in temporary hibernation, loungewear has never looked more appealing.

From duvet to desk to couch, here’s what to wear for some seriously stylish lounging.

THE CASHMERE CO-ORD

For the ultimate elevated off-duty mood, invest in a cashmere co-ord. They might be the fanciest jogger set you’ll ever own, but it’ll make you look (and feel) instantly put-together. The trick is to buy one in a coordinating, neutral colour and relaxed silhouette. Raey’s camel co-ord ticks every box with its dipped hem sweater and swishy wide leg trousers that come complete with the all-important side seam pockets for stashing your WFH paraphernalia. Switch the sweater for a satin cami top with leather slides when the weather heats up.

CF PICK: Pair with Raey dip hem knitted cashmere sweater, £595

THE HOUSE DRESS

Is it a night shirt? Is it a cotton dress? The truth is it’s a bit of both – but nobody has to know that… Nightshirt dresses have come a long way since Victoriana times. Oliver Bonas’ striped mint green nightshirt dress is so chic it moonlights as a crisp summer dress. With a smart collar and button-up front, it’s the kind of loungewear that looks smart enough for a 7.30am boardroom meet on Zoom. You can roll from your duvet to (makeshift) desk with your cereal bowl just out of shot.

THE COSY SLIPPERS

Give the traditional moccasins a miss and go for a slip-on that’s a slipper/shoe hybrid when you’re self-isolating. We’re calling it a ‘sloe’. As the name suggests, Balenciaga's Cosy BB slippers are backless and designed with cushioned footbeds that are so insanely comfy you’ll be surgically attached to them this spring. Cosy by name, cosy by nature, but the supple black leather and shiny gold hardware give them a seriously luxe edge for lounging.

THE POSH PJS

If you’re relishing the extra PJ potential that self-quarantine gives you, you need a pyjama-inspired two-piece – and pronto. Not for wallflowers, Off-White reimagines a classic pyjama-style silhouette with this blue satin shirt and wide-leg trouser combo. While the style is uber-relaxed (and uber-comfy), the paint splatter-inspired jacquard print is anything but. For style mavens, this loungewear duo will give you all the joys of dressing up – without going out-out.

CF PICK: Pair with Off-White blue wide leg satin jacquard trousers, £640

THE MAXI CARDIGAN

If you tend to get separation anxiety from your dressing gown when you’re on lockdown, it’s officially time for a loungewear upgrade. Look to a maxi cardigan for an off-duty staple that you can wear indoors or outdoors. With its relaxed but chic silhouette, Extreme Cashmere’s cream Big Coat cardigan is officially the ‘coatigan’ that you need in your life for spring. In plush, stretch cashmere with a coordinating belt tie, layer it over a white tee and coordinating trousers.

THE BUTTON-DOWN TEE

You can never have too many tees when you’re WFH – but how do you make them a tad smarter than your average? Opt for a button-up tee with sleeves that almost hit your elbow for a more grown-up vibe. Sure, it doesn’t have a collar like a shirt, but the unexpected button detail instantly zips you up and makes you feel put-together. We love Jigsaw’s ribbed button front tee in Evergreen for a pop of colour.
