The CF Checklist: April

The world might be on pause right now but your wardrobe doesn’t have to be. If anything, it’s the time to switch up your safety net of neutrals for some seriously uplifting style.

Psychology dictates that the brighter your clothes and the punchier the prints, the more upbeat you’ll feel. So take the philosophy and run with it (within the confines of social distancing, obvs) with this season’s mood-boosting pieces.

From Rhode’s marble dress to Jacquemus’ landscape shirt, wear them for your favourite Zoom/Houseparty calls now and introduce them to the outside world later.

We reveal the seven pieces to instantly lift your spirits.

THE MARBLE DRESS

In the absence of a European getaway, wear this Rhode Ella cotton dress on your sofa with a pina colada. In an effortless silhouette, this marbled print is like a technicolour dream dress. Eclectic pattern aside, it’s all in the details: cropped balloon sleeves, detachable braided belt and flattering fluted hemline. It’s made for sashaying around your living room now, and packing in your vacation suitcase later.

THE SUPER TOTE

If the trip to the supermarket has become your weekly highlight, make it count. A giant tote will not only hold all your groceries but a bag like La DoubleJ’s Big Mama bag will brighten up your day, too. The bright sunshine yellow hue is patterned with playful pineapple motifs and features a handy front pocket with cut-out ‘J’ monogram. Shopping bag, beach bag, everything-under-the-sun bag – this maximalist tote does it all. While we’re at it, we’ll take those matchy-matchy La DoubleJ Good Butt shorts, too.

Travel is either escape from my day-to-day and a return to either family (in Los Angeles), or heart-breaking beauty (Bali or Sicily).

THE STATEMENT STRIPE

With the beach deckchair stripes on hold, bring on the brights via your shirt instead. Kalmar’s Celia blouse features a galaxy stripe that’s an instant mood booster thank to the bold colour blocking. Transitional fashion is taking on a whole new meaning right now – forget winter to spring, it’s now all about loungewear to luxe. Wear this relaxed blouse loose and unbuttoned for a casual look, or tucked in and buttoned up for a smarter aesthetic.

THE FUCHSIA EARRINGS

All that FaceTime means your head and shoulders are getting some serious airtime right now. A pair of bold earrings will instantly elevate your look – and mood – even if you’re wearing your PJ pants out of shot. We love the flash of fuchsia that these Maryjane Claverol Katia earrings give you. Bold, but not dangly, they feature a gold metal hoop that’s linked with a second shimmering pink lamé thread hoop. Wear them with your hair pushed back and prepare for the virtual compliments to roll in.

THE PRINT COORD

Yes, you can still do a co-ord that isn’t a tracksuit… If you prefer a more muted palette, check out Isabel Marant’s utilitarian double act. Splashed with random brushstroke patterns, it’s like safari-meets-camo-meets-catwalk. In cotton and linen-blend twill, the jacket has a relaxed silhouette with gathered shoulder seams and buttoned pocket at the chest. Wear it as a co-ord set with the matching pants that have a straight-leg silhouette and flattering, high paper-bag waistline.

THE TROPHY SANDALS

We’re calling it: a low, fancy heel is the tonic that you need right now if you’re a shoe person. Step forward Yuul Yie’s Trophy 65 green sandals, aka the ultimate spring shoe. Featuring bold and bright sculptural heel – a black ball and blue rectangle – they’re like mini ornaments for your feet. Treat yourself to a DIY pedi and strap yourself in with the lace-up wrap-around ankle tie. Wear them housebound now; party in them later.

THE LANDSCAPE SHIRT

Missing the great outdoors? Jacquemus La Chemise Paul print shirt satisfies your cravings via your closet. Complete with a painted landscape scene, it’s perfect for wearing like a ‘shacket’ (aka jacket-meets-shirt), slung over dresses or jeans and a top. Relaxed silhouettes rule during self-isolating and this ‘borrowed-from-the-boys’ shape has a naturally oversized fit. Wear it contrasted with white to make the outdoorsy print really pop.
