The CF Checklist: May

In the temporary absence of plane-hopping and packing, use your wardrobe to get away. From vacation-inspired prints to exaggerated silhouettes, your wardrobe can provide all the escapism you need.

If you’ve had your fashion fill of PJ pants and tracksuits, statement pieces can transport you to the style equivalent of a paradise island. From Emilia Wickstead’s safari print co-ord to Staud’s Majorca blue toile tote, these closet highlights are like the anthesis to loungewear.

Meet our Suitcase Checklist statements for May. Buy them now to (seriously) show off later.

THE PRINT MAXI

True escapism comes in the form of a floaty maxi dress. This Caruba printed linen maxi dress looks like it’s been designed with summer vacations in mind. Agua by Agua Bendita’s designs are handcrafted in the label's home country of Colombia and feature the original artisan work of hundreds of Colombian women. Featuring fluted sleeves and geometric floral design, it’s versatile enough to dress up for dinner or pare down for beach days with bare feet.

THE SAFARI SET

Forget Tiger King. We’re going wild over Emilia Wickstead’s Resort 2020 collection, which is an ode to vintage destination dressing – complete with big cats. Featuring a playful safari-inspired print, this ivory tone Eudora shirt is packed with faded designs of the Big Five and beyond. In lightweight linen with a double-breasted front and belted waist, it’s like the safari version of playing dress-up. Team it with blue denim jeans or go for the full co-ord safari set with Reggie high-waisted linen shorts in culotte silhouette.

THE FRILL SWIMSUIT

Nothing says ‘transport me somewhere far-far away’ like swimwear with a seriously statement ruffle. Paolita’s Vela Bianca is a one piece with two major statements – an off-the-shoulder ruffle (all the better to go tan-line free) and dramatic print (to pep up your Instagram feed). Wear it in your back garden now in preparation for poolside days later.

THE PRINT TOTE

Staud’s signature Shirley tote has already become a bag classic – but we’ll take the fresh vacation version, please. With the exact same structured shape and distinctive square-shaped handles, it’s now been updated in a Majorca blue toile printed canvas for summer 2020. Too pretty for a beach bag, we’ll be keeping it at the ready for elevating city looks.

THE FLORAL SHIRT

We’re not sure if it was the romance of the lavender fields or the pink runway (or quite possibly, both), but Jacquemus teamed this Vallena linen shirt with a floppy straw hat and shimmering blue dress at the Provençal Spring 20 presentation and so our obsession began. The graphic, exaggerated blooms are the statement way to wear florals this summer. With a nod to a classic bowling-style shirt in a boxy shape, this relaxed silhouette is best worn unbuttoned over a swimsuit or lightweight dress. Lavender fields, optional.

THE HOOP EARRINGS

The perfect accompaniment to sunny day looks, MaryJane Claverol’s Acupulco hoops are just the kind of fantasy bling we’re craving right now. Half pastel, half uber-bright, the mixed media earrings feature an oversized, thread-wrapped hoop suspended from a beaded daisy design. Colourblocking for your ear lobes? We’re game if you are.

THE RA-RA TOP

Nobody does look-at-me statement sleeves like Rosie Assoulin. Equally as vibrant in colour as silhouette, this ra ra top is the ultimate ‘It’ piece. Cut from a vivid persimmon-hued floral jacquard, the puffed off-the-shoulder sleeves are ideal for shrugging off your woes and escaping to your happy place. Contrast it with jeans to tone down the volume or play on the drama with some equally loud pants.
