The CF Checklist: June

If you haven’t already adopted the vacation approach to semi-lockdown style, try it. There’s something about wafting around the local park in a giant sun hat that immediately changes your frame of mind.

Factor in some outrageously good weather and there’s no reason why you can’t wear your best swimsuit in the back garden, or carry a beach bag for your grocery shopping. Quit the philosophy that you need to keep your high summer heroes for the vacation equivalent of ‘Sunday best’ and wear them right now.

Whether you’re focused on future vacations or settling in for staycations, these pieces champion summer dreaming and we’re so here for it.

THE SCARF SUNHAT

Can’t decide between a headscarf or a sunhat? Double up with Avenue The Label’s Luna floral straw number. Fashioned with a wide raw-edged brim and satin scarf adorned with a bohemian yellow floral print, it’s like the ultimate headwear double act for summer days in the city or laidback beach lounging. Play on the feminine vibe with a ladylike sundress, or rein it back with casual denim and a slouchy tee.

THE STATEMENT MAXI

Some summer dresses do statement prints, some do statement silhouettes. Mara Hoffman’s Leila dream dress does both – to the max. The A-line shape and sculptural shoulders are balanced by a plunging neckline and cut-out detail to show off some skin. Keep your hair, shoes and accessories low-key and let that uber-bold, all-over watercolour print do all the (loud) talking.

THE SUEDE SANDALS

Rejoice: the time has officially come to switch up your slippers/sliders/flip-flops for a ‘proper’ summer shoe. A return to (mini) heels doesn’t get much better than these Jacquemus Manosque runway sandals. With a square toe and skinny straps in velvety orange suede, who knew that sculptural heels could actually be comfy? Wear them with anything from summer dresses to denim shorts and complete the look with a colour-clashing DIY pedi.

THE EMBELLISHED SWIMSUIT

Fact: back gardens have become our new social playgrounds during semi-lockdown. Don’t wait around for a hotel swimming pool before you wear Agua by Agua Bendita’s Nativa swimsuit. Just as detailed as the label’s ready-to-wear numbers, this statement one piece features floral embroidery embellished with tiny beads. Made to be seen, maximise its wear potential by doubling it up as a summer bodysuit – team with a pair of high-rise shorts or skirt and seek out a pal with a swimming pool, pronto.

THE BEACHY EARRINGS

Beachy trinkets don’t have to be reserved for vacation souvenir shops. Get a sea-inspired addition to your summer look now with these major Mercedes Salazar seahorse earrings. The swing/bling design is embellished with a shiny gold-tone finish and crystal accents. Sure to dazzle in the sunshine, we’ll be wearing them accessorised with a crisp shirt and top knot for maximum exposure.

THE OFF-SHOULDER DRESS

Meet the summer It dress that’s so good it comes in a multitude of style personalities. Varying from bright blue to monochrome polka dots to tan, Staud’s Elio comes in eight colourways for SS20. We heart the mood of Hibiscus, which comes in a vibrant colourblock design. Designed for maximum tan potential, the off-shoulder silhouette also features adjustable ruffled cap sleeves to free your arms. Style it with a neutral wicker bag and sandals to capture the vacation mood wherever you are.

THE WOVEN TOTE

When arm candy looks as good as Sophia Webster’s Maya tote it’s worth promoting them beyond the beach. Decorated with candy-hued fringing and lacquered edge details, the bag’s bright accents make it neutral and vibrant all at the same time. Take full advantage of the matching zipped pouch (which can be attached inside or carried separately) where you can keep your sunglasses and smartphone to the ready with minimal rummaging.
