Can Ferrereta, Santanyí, Mallorca, Spain

From the team behind Palma’s popular Sant Francesc, comes Can Ferretera. Set to open its doors in March 2021, this soon-to-be Santanyí hotspot is akin to a chic summer house. Pared-back interiors – think rustic wooden beams and original stone – are luxed up with sleek furnishings and an impressive modern art collection, which spans local and Spanish artists. Escaping to the Balearics is sure to rise on the travel wish lists of many, thanks to this newcomer.

NoMad, London, UK

After a long-enforced hibernation, the NoMad is coming to London. The original NoMad in New York is one of the city’s slickest stays, so naturally we’re keen to check out the group’s latest iteration at the former Bow Street Magistrates’ Court and Police Station in Covent Garden. Imagined by designers Roman and Williams – art fans, expect to be wowed by over the hotel’s collection of some 1,600 works. Toasting to the NoMad’s opening, we’ll be heading to Side Hustle for our fill of Mexican sharing plates, mezcal and tequila, before moving on to Common Decency for some serious cocktails.

Opening February 2021

Vico Milan, Milan, Italy

The Baccheschi-Berti family behind the beautiful Castello di Vicarello, a restored 12th-century castle in Tuscany’s wild Maremma countryside, is expanding its vision across Italy in 2021. Vico Milan, a seven-bedroom boutique guesthouse on Corso Genova 11, is set to open its doors in March of this year. A stylish home-from-home, social spaces are set to be a real focus here – think post-work cocktails at the green-marble bar or free pours of organic wine (from the family-owned vineyard in Tuscany) in the Library conversing with locals and other globetrotting guests.

Opening: March 2021

The Hoxton, Rome, Italy

Originally due to open in 2020, the Roman edition of The Hoxton will now open its door in spring 2021. Setting up camp in the under-the-radar Salario district, the 192-room hotel imbues all the design trademarks The Hoxton brand is known for. Ahead of the brand’s 10th hotel opening (its 6th in Europe), we’ve been ogling over the guest rooms – which feature rustic parquet flooring, lacquered timbers, and Murano glass chandeliers. Bellissima. Planning for future business trips – we’ve eyed up the hotel’s L’appartamento – a dedicated meeting and events space consisting of five rooms all centred around a communal pantry and eclectically furnished with vintage Italian pieces and statement terrazzo floors.

Here, a thousand-year-old castle houses 36 stylish bedrooms, each bedecked in rich Italian fabrics, complete with custom-made furniture and other objets. Soon, guests will be welcomed to the tranquil surrounds where time is best spent exploring nearby pastures – a swim in the lake, a horseback ride through the forest… For mealtimes, choose from two restaurants, with produce supplied from the estate’s gardens and surrounding vineyards, or take an Italian cooking lesson and reap the moreish rewards post-tutorial. For something less exerting, guests can book a treatment at the Bathhouse – make sure to check out the hammam and sauna while you’re there.

Having originally opened in 1900, Villa Igiea – built by Sicilian architect Ernesto Basile for the Florio family – became an all-seasons sanctuary for the Hollywood elite (and royalty too). Preparing to reopen its doors this May, the hotel has been revamped by Olga Polizzi in collaboration with Paolo Moschino of Nicholas Haslam Studios. Pairing the luxe interiors (think period features blended with contemporary flair) with idyllic views, and a jaw-dropping facade, Villa Igiea is pegged to become one of Palermo’s most glamorous coastal spots.
