Citizen Femme Hotlist: 11.01.21

January isn’t exactly the most celebrated of months and, so far, this year isn’t doing a whole lot to boost popularity ratings. Still, we continue, counting down the calendar squares and biding our time until brighter days return.

‘Til then, we window shop online, read, and double-down on our skincare routines… From weather-backed necessities to the TV shows that are keeping us company this week, here’s what’s on CF’s radar.

WRAP UP IN THIS Perfect Moment, Apres Duvet Ski Jacket

This jacket’s practical attributes – mainly, warmth – are not to be overlooked. Still, it’s easy be distracted by the patriotic houndstooth print. Sporty and retro, this chill-proof puffer will see you through winter weather and endless laps of your local park (hello perpetual lockdown) pre- and post-work. With a clip-off hoodie, fitted cuffs, and a feather down fabric that’s as toasty as they come, best to snap one up quick… or risk being left out in the cold.

MOISTURISE WITH THIS Susanne Kaufmann, Moisturising Mask 50ml

We’ve found the ultimate foil for dehydration, and it comes in a compact 50ml glass jar. Susanne Kaufmann’s Moisturising Mask floods the skin with strengthening and nourishing ingredients, to leave it feeling plumped, smooth, and dewy. Generously apply to the face, neck, and decolletage after cleansing, and leave it to work its magic for a minimum of 10 minutes before removing with lukewarm water. Left with softened skin and a rosy shine the intensive, emollient mask is a must-have for all those with parched complexions.

EXPERIENCE THIS Patti Smith Residency With Circa

Each evening, at exactly 20.21, the screen at Piccadilly Circus will light up with the live streamed words of the legendary Patti Smith. Smith’s month-long residency digital art platform Circa began on New Year’s Day and marks the 50th anniversary of her first poetry recital at St. Mark’s Church-in-the-Bowery on 10 February 1971. Her 3 January performance garnered particular attention, featuring a special poem, written by Patti, and dedicated to Great Thunberg on her 18th birthday. Visitors to Piccadilly Circus can connect their headphones to circa.art and receive a fully immersive audio-visual experience.

RELAX WITH THIS Goop, 'The Martini' Emotional Detox Bath Soak

I cannot overstate how much I am relishing bath time (and no, I am not six years of age) these days. Come 6.30PM, it’s into the tub for a soak and a rolling entertainment programme consisting exclusively of The Real Housewives of New York/ Beverly Hills/ Orange County… It marks a shift from work time to relax time, after which it’s PJs on, cooking and FaceTime. Having experienced such levels of zen of late, it feels wrong to withhold my favourite bath-time component: Goop’s ‘The Martini’ Emotional Detox Bath Salt. Add one cup of this Himalayan pink salt, chia seed oil, and valerian root tincture, and soak for a minimum of 20 minutes. You’ll feel better for it.

READ THIS little scratch, by Rebecca Watson

Looking for something new to read that will really hold your attention? Try little scratch by Rebecca Watson. little scratch tells the story of an unnamed woman living in a world of office politics, clock-watching and WhatsApp notifications as she relays what it takes to get through mundanity in the wake of a recent sexual assault. Described as ‘wry’ and ‘delicate’, the work – which began life as an entry for The White Review’s short story competition in 2018 – explores and recognises suffering, without allowing the book’s protagonist to be defined by the traumatic experiences she has endured.
