Originally, I planned on opening this week’s round up with “Hey January, no one likes you.” But I stopped myself, acknowledging that was not the energy I wanted to channel in 2021.
No sir. It’s daisy chains (though finding a daisy blooming in frosty January is not without its challenges), positive affirmations a la Oprah and small acts of kindness from now on…
So, January we don’t hate you… we’re just in a bit of a funk. If you’re feeling similarly, here are five things to boost your spirits, entertain and help you gain perspective this week.
EAT THIS LUCA At Home, Deli Box
DIY meal kits from our favourite restaurants have provided some much-needed variety to mealtimes these past months. This week, we’re rolling up our sleeves and tucking into a lunchtime treat with Luca’s Deli Box. Enjoy a stellar line up of Luca deli items – think basil and rocket pesto, preserved red peppers, Dusty Knuckles sourdough, parmesan and olives, plus a bottle of prosecco; we swear you’ll feel sunnier for it. The deli selection also makes for the perfect evening snack – a godsend on those who these days would rather nibble and pick than sit down to a three-course meal. Orders are available for delivery or local pickup via pre-booked time slots.
READ THIS A Burning, by Megha Majumdar
A huge hit in the US, Megha Majumdar’s debut novel tells the tale of three characters who find themselves entangled in the aftermath of a terrorist attack in modern-day India. Readers can expect a pulsating character study, which circles around a young Muslim woman accused of a terrorist outrage, in this moral drama. Exploring themes of poverty, injustice, and social aspiration this is an unforgettable and electrifying read. Running at 304 pages, the book is compelling enough to complete in just one sitting.
WEAR THIS LOEWE, hooded jacket
We’re wearing this simple Loewe windbreaker jacket 24-7: trailside, in the rain… everywhere. As with most things Jonathan Anderson touches, it’s an item that is understated cool personified. Giving your classic windbreaker a chic upgrade with contrasting piping and leather panels at the sleeves, this boxy beige jacket is made from durable cotton-canvas and looks just as good paired with denims and tailoring as with leggings and a chunky jumper.
WATCH THIS The White Tiger, Netflix
One to add to your much-watch list, The White Tiger, directed by Ramin Bahrani, is an adaptation of Aravind Agida’s Booker Prize winning debut novel about a poor Indian village boy named Balram Halwai and his journey to becoming a successful entrepreneur. Casting Adarsh Gourav as the ambitious driver for a rich Indian family who uses his wit and cunning to escape from poverty and become an entrepreneur, the film is a commentary on social class in India. Priyanka Chopra Jonas also stars.
DESIGN THIS Nue Hoops
We would probably categorise our crafting capabilities as ‘underwhelming’. Congruently, our flair for jewellery shopping is top-grade. So, we’re making the best of things and creating our own personalised jewellery with the help of Nue Hoops. Step one: choose your preferred hoop (opt for silver or gold vermeil). Step two: mix and match, choosing your preferred charm or charms – we’re particularly fond of the dinky, triangle-shaped ‘Deedee’, priced at just £12, and the multi-coloured, crescent-shaped ‘Bella’. All Nue Hoops charms are sold individually (and fit on all hoop sizes) so you can play and update your designs with ease.
