The CF Checklist: March

It’s time to plan your sartorial return to normality, aided by your monthly dose of The CF Checklist.

With light FINALLY at the end of the tunnel, and spring beginning to bud, we are looking for stand-out pieces to make our transition out of lockdown as stylish as can be….

THE HANDBAG

We're reasoning that with all the money we’ve saved by not leaving the house, it's a valid excuse to treat ourselves to a new handbag, right? The Poppy Bag by The Cambridge Satchel Company is an instant classic: in buttery leather, it can be worn cross-body or handheld, making it stylish yet practical. Available in an array of colour options, from go-with-everything Black, and statement Pillar Box Red to chic French Grey, we are particularly fond of Racing Green to make a statement season-after-season.

THE NEW DENIM

Our jeans have been feeling a little neglected lately (sorry jeans) but it’s high time to reintroduce them to our daily dressing repertoire. Look to E.L.V. Denim for chic, edgy designs upcycled from denim destined for landfill. With this concept, each piece is truly one-of-a-kind, sustainably created with zero-waste. The Straight Leg Jeans – constructed from two-tones of blue denim and cutting high on the waist – give the clever illusion of elongated legs. Simply pair with a white T-shirt to emulate instant East-London cool.

THE BACKLESS LOAFER

Now the sun has started to re-emerge, a backless loafer is at the top of our shopping list. We've all become worryingly attached to our slippers but, with all the comfort of an indoor shoe, this footwear style will make the transition to normality a breeze. Now that we have just finally become accustomed to dressing from the waist up, it’s time to dress from the feet up once more. What better approach to take than JW Anderson's loafers in rich brown leather, complete with a pleasingly chunky chain detail. These aren’t just any backless loafers, these are trophy backless loafers.

THE SLEEK BLAZER

Yes, we could quite simply live in head-to-toe Anine Bing all day, every day, thanks to the LA-cum-Copenhagen minimalist's aesthetic. However, it's this camel blazer which seems especially custom-made for our spring wardrobes. With a cinched-waist detail, and asymmetric hem, these clever details make it just as wearable fastened as undone, and instantly elevates a simple ensemble.

THE EARRINGS

Our new mantra is to elevate the every day with fine jewellery, not solely keep it stowed away for special occasions. Canada-based label Mejuri also champions the everday allure of jewellery to pull together your look. By using gold vermeil: a durable gold-plating technique, Mejuri's classic-with-a-twist pieces are affordably priced. We love these interlocking chain drop hoops, which work perfectly for day-to-night dressing.

THE EFFORTLESS SLIP

The slip dress is a timeless classic for a reason. Ever since its inception in 90s it’s been synonymous with insouciant glamour à la Kate Moss. Super versatile for loungewear to occasion-wear, and everything in between, it's a one-item step to instant polish. But where to find the perfect slip? Enter SILKED London which has just launched this week for pre-order. The debut collection is a sleek edit of silk slips, skirts, shirts, and duster coats, in buttery-soft silk, and is available in three colour ways: onyx, sapphire, and oyster. We will be investing in the oyster slip dress, which works as a base layer for a statement knit like this LoveShackFancy whimsical cardigan.

THE LATEST ACTIVEWEAR

If this year has taught us anything, it’s that you can never have enough leggings. I’ve practically lived in mine for a whole calendar year: whether it’s for WFH, or attempting many a virtual workout. This week our favourite sustainable brand – Reformation – has launched Ref Active. It's a collection of activewear one-pieces and separates in bold colourways, like zesty lime and powder blue. There are two fabrications to suit whatever your day has in store: Ecomove, a suck-it-all-in option for HIIT, and EcoStrect, a lighter stretchy option for light barre or lounging. This forest green two-piece is top of my wishlist, taking me from coffee run to evening jog.

THE SPRING TEA DRESS

Bold artistic prints and sculptural silhouettes define New York label Proenza Schouler, and now there is a new way to love the brand, thanks to an exclusive capsule collaboration with The Outnet. Archive fabrics have been revisited and spliced into new designs, and new silhouettes from edgy tailoring to structured dresses have been added to the mix. We love this pastel yellow dress with an asymmetric hem, it’s the definition of optimistic dressing.

THE WEAR WITH EVERYTHING SHIRT

The power of an oversized boyfriend shirt shouldn't be underestimated. It is the foundation of any hard-working capsule wardrobe, and is as suitable for the office as it is for off-duty weekend chic. YAITTE’s design aesthetic is rooted in pieces you can pack for your travels, and the signature BUOY shirt will be a suitcase addition for trips to St Ives, worn with a pair of white jeans, as well as St Tropez, where I will drape it over swimwear. Available in red, green, and navy stripes – I'm stocking up on all three.

THE WEEKEND BAG

Boris’ announcement last week caused a frisson of excitement and sent searches for staycations sky-high. With travel tangibly within reach, it’s the perfect opportunity to invest in new luggage such as Away’s latest Two-Tone collection. Staying true to the brand's aesthetic of stand-out hues, we love the new dual-tones – particularly the pairing of cream and olive. The collection has all the functionality we’ve come to love in Away luggage: polycarbonate shells and spinning wheels for long-lasting wear, and not forgetting that ejectable charger (beecause God forbid your phone dies in transit…).
