The Beauty Haul Diaries: Margaret De Heinrich De Omorovicza

Margaret De Heinrich De Omorovicza, Co-Founder of eponymously named skincare brand Omorovicza, was enamoured with beauty products from a young age…

“I fell in love with beauty when I saw what beauty could do. How it could make me feel, not simply how it made me look,” she muses.

Omorovicza is a luxury Hungarian skincare brand which harnesses the skin-transforming powers of Budapest’s thermal spring water. Anyone who has taken a trip to Budapest will know first-hand just how central spa visits (and the healing waters therein) are to the city’s culture. Taking influence from such traditions and rich supply sources, Omorovicza products are lovingly packed with spring water (rich in minerals such as iron, copper, calcium, magnesium, and zinc, to name but a few). The result: firmer, smoother, and springier skin.

Margaret and her husband (and business partner) Stephen have a healthy appetite for travel: “We all spend so much time in front of our screens, now more than ever. To have the privilege of travelling and ‘looking up’ at the wonders of the world makes my heart and mind sing.”

From regular masking to picking up beauty secrets wherever she goes, this is how Margaret De Heinrich De Omorovicza does beauty in transit.

What are your must-do beauty rituals/ treatments before you travel?

I will give myself a facial and scalp treatment using our Moor Mud range. My skin gets quite stressed when I travel, so I need to keep my pores clear and happy.

How do you adapt your beauty regime when you travel?

I consider where I am going and adjust my skincare accordingly to suit the climate. For instance, if I am travelling to a spot which is hot and humid, I’ll take products that deliver nutrients to my skin but not heavy hydration.

What’s the best way to downsize your at-home beauty product haul for travel?

There is no need to downsize your product haul, especially with minis. The only thing I adapt is masks: I pack just two.  One to treat the inevitable break outs I develop with the stress of travel, and the other is a super rich hydrating mask to repair damaged skin.

Do you prefer to pack travel minis or full-size beauty staples? And why?

Minis because I am am a ‘carry-on’ suitcase kind of a girl, and a beauty junkie. I don’t want to leave anything behind due to lack of space.

Do you have a regular plane beauty routine?

My skin is dry and sensitive already, but when I travel it gets worse due to the dry cabin air. I’m also prone to a bit of stress when travelling which can cause breakouts – what a combination!  On longer flights, I’ll cleanse my face early on, to ensure my make up doesn’t clog my pores. I then apply our Gold Rescue Cream which is not just incredibly nourishing and hydrating, but feels like it is protecting my skin as well.

What’s been your favourite vacation spa so far?

There are so many amazing spas and we are lucky to be in some of them. I think Viva Mayr is one of the most remarkable, as it’s so innovative.

How do you unwind when travelling?

My family is big and active. We are always on the go, even on holiday: hiking, playing tennis, sailing, skiing, and dancing. Just being free from the regimented school and work schedules is relaxing in itself.

What’s your favourite country to shop for home-grown beauty products?

I love discovering local beauty secrets, there are so many all over the world. However, I have to say the Hungarians do this so well, as it is very much a part of their beauty culture. I also love to visit Japan; I’m fascinated by their disciplined approach to beauty.

What are your top beauty tips when travelling?

When you don’t have time for a blow dry put your hair in low buns post-showering, and let it air dry. When you let your hair loose you’ll see a lovely, natural wave. Also, as nothing looks better than healthy, glowing skin, give yourself a flash facial every morning.  Use a gentle exfoliator followed a hydrating mask, massaged in for a few minutes. You shouldn’t need a moisturiser after that. It’s great for prepping the skin for make-up.

How do you overcome jet lag skin/eyes when you land?

My secret weapon is using a very small amount of our Glam Glow self tanner. It’s very subtle, but makes skin look like you’ve been playing tennis all morning, not just landed off a transatlantic flight!

What’s at the top of your wish list right now?

I am dreaming about the sun. The idea of sipping a cocktail with Stephen on the balcony of the Raya Hotel in Panarea, looking at Stromboli in the distance never sounded so good.

THE PACKING LOWDOWN

Travel light or over-packer?

A reformed over-packer. After years of practice, these days I’m surprisingly efficient.

Spa facial or massage?

My ideal treatment is one we have at our Institute in Budapest: it’s two hours long and starts with reflexology, then a deep cleansing facial, followed by a back, neck, and scalp massage. Heaven!

Favourite cosmetic bag?

Anya Hindmarch personalised with pictures of my children.

Vacation air-dry or blow-dry?

When I have time, a blow-dry.

Faux tan or au naturel?

We make the most amazing self tan. I think it looks better than the real deal.

Skincare wipes – yes or no?

The ideal solution for a quick cleanse.

Desert island beauty product?

Rejuvenating Night Cream.
