Hot Hotels: Cosy Cabin Stays In The UK

Go off-grid for the weekend at one of these cosy cabins.

We’ve rounded up our favourites, which run the gamut from luxe lakeside hotel to eclectic rental cabin.

Chewton Glen

Nestled in a secluded area of the New Forest, Chewton Glen offers everything you could possibly need for the ultimate cosy break. We’re talking king size bed, giant bath, hot tub and wood burner. Sleep in one of the hotel’s tree house hideaways – accessible via gangplank – and come morning, have your breakfast hamper delivered through a magic hatch. No need to drag yourself out of bed = peak cosy.

Lime Wood

At the end of a winding private pathway away from the main house, The Lake Cabin is a very special hideaway. Simple but sophisticated, interiors are clad in reclaimed timber (note the stripped wood floors and walls) and bedrooms boast a king-sized bed and en-suite bathroom with full bath, walk in shower, and a separate W.C. A secluded spot positioned on the lake with balcony on three sides, the cabin’s mini kitchen /bar area makes it a full-serviced weekend hideaway.

The Fish Hotel

Cotswolds charm abounds at The Fish Hotel. Nab a luxury shepherd hut (positioned a short stroll away from the main lodge) for a rustic retreat less ordinary. Each individually designed hut has cosy underfloor heating and a lounge area with a sofa and a wood burner. Due to popular demand, five additional Hideaway Huts have been rolled out for summer 2021. Outdoors, each hut has a private deck seating area with a hot tub. Feel like roaming from home? Don your wellies and explore the verdant grounds before kicking back in front of the fire at the hotel and tucking into a traditional family-style Sunday lunch with all the trimmings.

Soho Farmhouse

For some R&R in the woods, head to the Piglet cabins at Soho Farmhouse. The staple getaway of burnt-out Londoners, the luxury retreats’ Piglet cabins are smaller rooms that sit in clusters of four in a wildflower meadow (and among the most affordable accommodations). Each Piglet cabin features an incredibly comfy emperor-size bed, sofa, and a private bathroom with rainforest shower. A happy medium for those who like the idea of camping but with heating and a flat screen TV – plus you can arrange for milk floats to call by and serve cocktails at your cabin.

Elmley National Nature Reserve

Just under an hour from London, this 3,300-acre off-grid escape is certain to entice. With stylish shepherd’s huts and luxury log cabins looking out on a vast, wildlife-packed landscape, Elmley National Nature Reserve is a swish dwelling spot for those seeking country pursuits. Elmley Cottage sleeps up to 10 adults, with four and a ground-floor sitting room. Ultra-cosy interiors featuring cast-iron radiators, wood-burning stoves and ash-branch beds make staying in oh-so appealing.

Handcrafted-meets-upcycled at Firefly. Perched on the fringes of Newquay‘s wave-riding shores, this self-catering hideaway gets back-to-nature. Spend days wildlife spotting, surfing and fire feasting and should the storms set in, there’s ample vintage reading material, classic board games and even a hidden television to entertain cabin guests. The luxury cottage – complete with kingsize bed, velvet sofa a rain shower surrounded by corrugated iron – is pure understated elegance.

Babington House

Plotted in the heart of Somerset, 30 minutes from Bath, Babington House is a longstanding go-to when it comes to cosy escapes. Peak cosy comes in the form of the estate’s wood cabin, which overlooks the lake at Babington House and has a kitchen, two bedrooms and bathrooms, a sitting room with a wood-burning stove, and an outdoor rolltop bathtub making it the ideal getaway.

Cedar Valley

Deep in the Hampshire countryside – and within easy reach of London – you’ll find Cedar Valley. The glamping collection at Meon Valley includes two safari tents, several luxury kabins, as well as ‘Betty the Bedford’, a restored horse lorry. ‘The Woodland Kabin’ and ‘Cedars Kabin’, which sit on the edge of woodland, are best suited to couples, while a third kabin ‘The Cowshed’, sleeps up to five and comprises of a farmhouse kitchen and wood-flanked dining room. A rustic chic stay which scores highly – their mobile pizza oven ‘Ricicle’ takes us over the edge.
