’90s supermodel Carolyn Murphy is one of the world’s most successful models. Born in Florida, Carolyn grew up between the Gulf Coast and her family’s farm in Virginia. In 1995 she landed an exclusive advertising campaign with Prada and the rest, as they say, is history.
Walking for the world’s most-feted labels, Carolyn has travelled all over the globe to work with the biggest names in fashion. In the beauty sphere, Carolyn is celebrating 20 years of working with cosmetics giant Estée Lauder (she first signed with the brand back in September 2001).
Equipped with her coterie of Estée Lauder must-haves, we dive into Carolyn Murphy’s travel beauty regimen.
How do you adapt your beauty regime when you travel?
When I travel I make sure I get extra hydration from the inside out. I drink a lot of water, apply the Estée Lauder Micro Essence Skin Activating Treatment Lotion during flights, and reapply layers of Re Nutriv Ultimate Lift Regenerating Youth Créme.
What’s the best way to downsize your at-home beauty product haul for travel?
I don’t skimp or downsize my beauty regimen when I travel but I do use glass travel-size containers.
How do you overcome jet-lagged skin/eyes when you land?
The best way to overcome jet-lagged skin and eyes is to do a light, exfoliating scrub, and then the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair PowerFoil Mask for moisture.
What are your top beauty and wellness tips when travelling?
It’s all about good hydration. I do my best to drink a lot of water, eat a plant-based diet, exercise at least four days a week and try to get enough sleep.
How do you unwind when you travel?
Even while travelling, I love to take the time to indulge in self-care by taking a bath, using my favourite products, going on a long walk, or writing in my journal.
What’s your favourite country to shop for home-grown beauty products?
I love the soaps and hand creams from the South of France that have lavender oils!
Do you think fragrance has transportive powers?
I love fragrance because it brings me back to some of my first memories of beauty. My first memory of Estée Lauder is from my Nana’s vanity, where I would play dress up and spray on White Linen – probably too much!
What’s been your favourite vacation spot to date?
I love Costa Rica, it’s so biodiverse and is my happy place.
What products are in your must-pack beauty kit right now?
What is your makeup manifesto…
My Nana would always say “beauty is as beauty does,” so I think it’s most important to be kind to others and yourself, laugh a lot, and enjoy life.
