Spa Of The Month: The Spa At KX

KX London is the spa of choice in the city, if you want to feel like a lighter, brighter version of yourself, fast.

After 12 months spent mostly indoors, my skin looking sallow and sun-parched, elasticated waistbands feeling more of a necessity than a choice, I hot-footed it to KX, London’s leading lifestyle and wellness destination, at the first opportunity. From outside, it’s a black, glossy vision, with an impeccably dressed doorman – exactly what you’d expect from a Kensington private-members club. The exclusive venue is notoriously tight-lipped about its visitors, but Prince Harry – along with a host of A-Listers – has been known to pass through its hallowed doors. Nestled deep in the belly of the club is a stellar spa, open to both members and non-members alike, and where VIP treatment is a given.

Here’s the lowdown on May’s Spa Of The Month, The Spa at KX.

The Lowdown

On Draycott Avenue, in the heart of Kensington, KX is the perfect place to recharge after a day of shopping (Harrods and Daylesford are dangerously close). The relaxation area, filled with aromatherapy candles and daybeds piled high with cushions, serves as the hub of the spa, off of which six treatment rooms play host to a series of top-notch treatments. You’ll want to linger a little longer to indulge in the first-class facilities,  starting with a trip to the endorphin-boosting infrared sauna, followed by the wooden-panelled traditional sauna, and a quick hop between the hot and cold plunge pools too.

The Vibe

Cosseted in the basement, you feel worlds away from the bustling streets above. The spa looks reassuringly luxe and most importantly, it’s easy to go incognito: think dim-lighting, polished wood, and neutral tones. This isn’t a spa to languish for hours in your fluffy bathrobe. Instead, it offers hardcore treatments with punchy results you’ll feel and see for weeks after.

The Signature

The treatment menu truly is extensive. I could have easily spent an entire afternoon being pampered from top-to-toe. However, wanting to inject some wow-factor into my visage, I opted for the KX Laser Genesis Advanced Facial. Loved by the likes of Angelina Jolie and Victoria’s Secret models, the Genesis Laser is a nifty tool which activates cell metabolism and collagen production, to optimise skin tone and elasticity, target fine lines, and sooth redness with zero down time. Reclining on a gently warmed bed, the facial starts with a clarifying double cleanse and pleasingly firm massage. So far, nothing out of the ordinary, but then things get really interesting. Skin is inspected under a lamp to ascertain the bespoke course of action for your skin, in my case, a skin-plumping and deep-cleaning hydrafacial was prescribed to counteract dryness and spring clean pores. All the while the knowledgeable therapists will dispense pearls of wisdom to take away with you, such as the vitamins to take to supercharge your skin. Next up is the Genesis Laser. Despite sounding like a space ship taking off, it’s perfectly comfortable, with just a gentle, warm sensation as the laser passes across the face. To round off the treatment and cool the skin, a hyaluronic acid-laced sheet mask is applied, coupled with a blast under soothing LED light. An indulgent 85 minutes later, my skin was positively GLOWING, ripe for a make-up free selfie.

The Extras

Aside from hard-working facials, there’s an extensive massage menu to make your way through from deep-tissue to sports, and lymphatic drainage to revive tired legs. There are a host of treatments offering an all-encompassing approach to wellness: with colonics and hypnotherapy, as well as nutrition and body contouring procedures readily available. Not after something so intense? There are simple pleasures to enjoy, such as an excellent mani/pedi. This truly is an all-singing, all-dancing spa.

For the full KX experience, guests who sign up for the annual club membership get access to one of London’s most elite gyms. With over 80 classes a week, fitness aficionados will be in their element, thanks to the spin studio and a programme of yoga, Pilates, and barre. You’ll find everything from HIIT to boxing sessions, whilst personal training sessions will really whip you into shape if you are after a post-lockdown overhaul.

All that pampering (or sweating), will build up quite an appetite, so stop by the in-house restaurant to recharge. Whilst purists can nibble on the KX Cobb Salad washed down with a collagen- and vitamin C-packed Regenerate juice, hedonists can indulge in something more substantial, like the mouthwatering  KX Burger.

CF Top Tip

Tuesday and Wednesday mid-morning is a perfect time to grab a slot with the most sought after massage therapists, including the fabulous Pauline De Jessey, for a fat-busting, body-remodelling treatment.
