Barely There Beauty: Mastering The No Make-Up Make-Up Look

Mastering the ‘no make-up make-up’ look requires a careful edit of products.

If you are struggling to readjust to wearing a full face of make-up post-lockdown, you’re in luck, because the minimalist make-up look is the biggest beauty trend for summer. We’re talking dewy skin, fluffy brows, a gentle sweep of mascara, and little else.

Here’s all you need in your arsenal to prepare to bare your skin and incite looks of admiration from all your friends.

THE SERUM

Barely there make-up is precariously dependent on getting your skincare right. As many of us have swotted-up on the best in skincare this past year, we are reaping the results of skin we want to show off. One such product we wax lyrical about at CF is U Beauty's Resurfacing Compound. The multifunctional serum is a bit of an over-achiever: it brightens, resurfaces, renews, tightens, and protects skin. Thanks to the signature patent-pending SIREN Capsule, a cocktail of antioxidants, peptides, retinol, vitamin C, and hyaluronic acid are delivered where most needed. Smoother, glowing skin begins to show within three to six days of use: pores look diminished, skin appears to brighten, and dark spots, fine lines, and wrinkles visibly fade. Massage one pump in morning and night for what can only be described as skincare wizardy.

THE FACE CREAM

Always at the forefront of new beauty trends, from the quirky to the science-backed, K-Beauty continues to thrive and increase in popularity. One such Korean beauty brand we always turn to is Erborian. The Glow Creme is the best open secret to impossibly glowy skin. Laced with squalene, licorice root, vitamin E, and niacinamide to brighten, hydrate, and protect skin, the formula is a triple threat to dull skin. The complexion is left with an irridescent, pearlised sheen you'd never think had come out of this unassuming little tube.

THE PRIMER

The last thing you want is your artfully applied make-up fading into obscurity come 3PM, so an efficacious primer is an essential step to ensure staying power. This clever water-based formula will not only ensure your foundation stays exactly where it's meant to, but it will also mask enlarged pores, blur imperfections, and minimise the appearance of fine lines, putting your skin into a gentle soft focus normally only achieved with an Instagram filter.

THE TINT

We love it when a beauty brand fully suprises us with their latest launch, such is the case with Glowish from Huda Beauty. Dubai-based Beauty Influencer and Entrepreneur Huda Kattan has amassed quite a cult-following for her glamorous make-up looks, synonymous with maximalist lashes, contouring, and full coverage foundation. This is Huda's first foray into tinted moisturiser, focused on embracing your skin, and emphasising it's beauty. The range of 13 shades cater to a spectrum of skin tones, and the texture, whilst slighter heavier than some tinted moisturisers, offers a glowy and smooth long-lasting base. We're sold.

THE CONCEALER

When stripping back on heavy-duty foundation formulas, a multi-tasking concealer is a crucial step to mask dark circles, even skintone, and blur imperfections. Armani's Luminous Silk Concealer is a clever product; it delivers the perfect amount of coverage, so as not to appear chalky or claggy, but also keeps things radiant. It's lightweight but long-lasting, just like any product that finds itself into our arsenal of products should be.

THE HIGHLIGHTER STICK

A one-product step to the dewiest, juiciest skin, this highlighting balm glides on seamlessly, leaving a delicate sheen which looks truly ethereal when it catches the light. Applied to the Cupid's Bow, temples, and even across eyelids, it's a natural-looking alternative to a heavier bronzer.

THE BROW PRODUCT

Thin, super-polished brows are so passé. It's all about the full, fluffy brow to compliment your radiant complexion. After brushing upwards, apply a quick sweep of the iconic Boy Brow to hold unruly hairs in place. We love the clear brow to keep things fresh; however, the tinted versions are perfect for filling in any gaps from enthusiastic over-plucking.

THE SUBTLE MASCARA

A brown mascara is a great alternative to black if you are after a more subtle illusion. The best mascaras curl, lift, and elongate lashes, enrobing them in a soft coating of pigment without clumping. Happily Sisley's So Volume does just that, and the extra-large wand helps to delicately fan lashes for a wide-awake look.

THE LIP BALM

Anything housed in a miniature orange Hermès box is instantly very, very desirable. As such, we are obsessed with the new Hermès Lip Enhancer. It looks like a beautiful object you'd quite like to pop on the mantelpiece; however, what's inside the chic bullet is also revolutionary, so that would be a waste. Sweep on the waxy balm to drench lips in a matte-pink hue; lips are wondrously nourished thanks to raspberry seed oil. The end result: your lips, truly defined.
