Suitcase Series: Jessie Randall, Founder Of Loefller Randall

We are huge fans of Loeffler Randall’s chic, yet playful accessories. Resplendent in metallics, gingham, and bows, they exemplify pure unadulterated femininity.

Founded 16 years ago by Jessie Randall and her now-husband, the Brooklyn-based brand is going from strength to strength. “I’ve always been so inspired by craft techniques and working with my hands. Anything from knitting, sewing, quilting, and cross stitching, to interior design projects I take on myself. All these things inspire and inform what we design for Loeffler Randall.” Indeed, their signature Penny mules – constructed from 400 hand-crafted pleats and taking 28 steps to complete – are objets in their own right.

In spite of the pandemic, 2020 was an exciting year for Loefller Randall, with the brand opening their very first bricks and mortar store. The airy SoHo space showcases their shoe collection alongside an ever-expanding array of bags and ready-to-wear pieces. Juggling the brand, and looking after three children, travel provides a welcome dose of escapism for Jessie: “travel is important to me because it inspires my creative process, both for the brand and for my ‘for fun’ creative projects – it also helps me to reset and have some fun, since life at home is so busy.”

Equipped with her Loeffler Randall sandals and tote, we delve into Jessie Randall’s travel psyche…

What is the first trip you remember taking?

A trip to Paris and London in the fourth grade: it was the first time my family had ever been. My parents tried to pack in every single possible European experience into a two week trip.

What’s been your most memorable trip and why?

Very shortly after we started dating, my (now) husband surprised me with a trip to St. Barts. It was so romantic.

What’s your favourite ever hotel?

Round Hill in Jamaica. We go every Christmas, and every other time we have the chance. It’s like home for us, and my favourite place in the whole world.

Where or what is your escape?

Our little place by the beach in the Hamptons. I try to go every single weekend.

If you could go anywhere tomorrow it would be…

Greece. I know it would be so inspiring.

What’s your idea of a luxury holiday?

Luxury is feeling comfortable, feeling welcome, and being able to truly relax.

Where do you get your holiday inspiration?

I’m always pinning pictures of beautiful places. I save them and dream of going someday.

My top bucket-list destination is…

Places I haven’t been but would love to go: Cornwall, the Cotswolds, Greece, the South of France, Ibiza, and Stockholm.  I’d also love to take my boys to Tokyo – it’s a dream of theirs.

If you could sit next to anyone – dead or alive – on a long-haul flight, who would it be?

My grandmother – she was fun, very chic, and pretty posh. I miss her so much!

How do you switch off?

A long hot bath.

What is your jet-lag recovery tip?

I love coming back from Europe and waking up early; it’s the only time I’m a morning person! I really don’t know what the cure is for jet-lag. It gets me every time.

Who is your favourite travel companion?

My husband: he’s more adventurous than I am.

What is your suitcase stalwart?

Our Lilla sandals come everywhere with me. We’ve just launched them in a new nude colour, which I love. They can be worn casually, and can easily dress things up too.

What is your number one packing tip?

I’m too lazy to do it, but my mom irons her clothes and packs them in tissue paper. It’s very luxurious and the clothes look amazing!

What is your most treasured purchase from your travels?

So many! The beautiful hand-embroidered linens I got in Marrakech, my napkins from Paris, rugs from Oaxaca, and, especially, the painting that hangs above my son’s bed from Jamaica.

Where is home and what are your must-do’s for any tourists visiting?

Home is Brooklyn. I would suggest the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, vintage shopping in Williamsburg, the Brooklyn Museum, a ride on Jane’s Carousel, and dinner at Frankies Spuntino.

First thing that comes to your mind…

Hand-luggage essentials?

Headphones.

Packing: roll or fold?

Fold.

In-flight book or in-flight film?

Reality TV.

Music or podcasts?

True crime podcasts.

Time filler on a long-haul flight?

Xanax.

Holiday tipple of choice?

Red Stripe, because I love being in Jamaica.

Beach or City Break?

Beach.

Ultimate holiday treat?

I dream of visiting Greece someday.

Holiday read of choice?

I load my Kindle up with a tonne of books for a trip. I always love a good memoir most of all.
