CF Editors Pick Their Favourite Beauty Products This Month

Beauty products drop at a dizzying rate, but there’s no need to feel overwhelmed. At CF we have done the hard work for you: curating an edit of the products dropping in August to really get excited about.

From the latest fragrance to the most efficacious of concealers, and the whizzy new supplement, these are the products that have piqued our Beauty Editor’s interest this month.

THE SHINY NEW BRAND

When Rob Calcraft launched REN 20 years ago, he disrupted the world of skincare. Now he’s doing it all over again, following years of extensive research, with Cultured: an intelligent skincare brand centred around the benefits of a healthy microbiome. The newly launched collection comprises a cleanser, serum, and mask to help skin protect, repair, and renew itself.

THE NAIL VARNISH

As you'd expect, Chanel's AW21 make-up collection is impossibly chic – from the molten metallic eye lacquers and soft, blendable eye pencils, to buttery matte lipsticks. But it is the new additions to the Le Vernis nail colours that particularly caught my eye. The whispy, soft grey and deep, chocolatey red are the shades I will be wearing on rotation to make sure my fingertips command serious attention.

THE FRAGRANCE

We all love truffle in our pasta, but did you know it makes a wonderfully moreish addition to fragrance too? To mark 21 years since Jo Malone started her Jo Loves brand, the company unveiled a delicious scent inspired by Italian summer nights. This genderless fragrance has sweet truffle at its heart, lifted by green fig, bitter citrus, and clarifying pine. One whiff and I was hooked. There’s nothing else I want to wear to usher in the last days of summer.

THE CONCEALER

I wax lyrical about Typology’s Tinted Serum: the make-up-meets-skincare hybrid offers superlative coverage, but with a super natural, glowy finish. Now the brand has complemented this with a whizzy new concealer. It has all the key ingredients of a hard-working eye serum (we’re looking at you caffeine and niacinamide) to reduce dark circles and puffiness, and also offer excellent coverage for blemishes too. I won't leave the house without it.

THE LIQUID FACE MASK

111SKIN is the unequivocal masking authority, and now, in a mission to improve their sustainability credentials, they've packed all the goodness from their cult-worthy sheet masks into these new liquid masks. Each tube contains enough wonder elixir for 18-22 uses. This stimulating Oxygen Express Mask gets to work fast to tone, tighten, and refine the appearance of the skin, mimicking the brand's excellent cryotherapy chamber. The result? A flawless, glass-like complexion.

THE SUPPLEMENTS

Stress manifests itself in myriad form, and so, as we return to daily life, we are protecting outselves with this new multi-functioning supplement. Combining Vitamin C, zinc, ashwaganda, and magnesium, it works to reduce cortisol (the key stress hormone), boost the libido, reduce muscle tension, target stomach flare ups, and reduce brain fog too. Quite the multi-tasker.

THE EYE QUAD

Tom Ford’s make-up is always suitably decadent, and nothing gets me into the party spirit quite like this little golden compact comprising a spectrum of glittery indigo and bronze shades. These versatile hues can be used for a subtle, sheer look or a bold smokey statement. CF TOP TIP: up the ante by using a damp brush for extra oomph.

THE PORTABLE HAIR STYLER

If, like me, you’ve found yourself caught in a torrential downpour over the last week, leaving you to wonder why on earth you bothered styling you hair, then the new cordless GHD straightener should be placed top of your beauty wish list. It’s super portable (weighing less than 300g), making it perfectly sized to pop in your handbag. Whether you simply want to sweep back flyaways or create mermaid-worthy waves on-the-go, this is your hair's new best friend.

THE LED MASK

I always opt for the additional LED mask when having a facial, to combat redness and irration, and I've had my eye on an LED mask for some time, to replicate the in-salon experience at home. The LookLit LED Mask is a fraction of the price some at-home devices, and just as efficacious. Harnessing the benefits of three different forms of LED – red for fine lines and calming inflammation; blue to target acne and scarring; and yellow to reduce redness and aid lympthatic flow – you can tailor your routine to your skin's individual concerns. I’ve been using mine for a month – four times a week whilst blasting through my inbox – and can already see the improvement in my skin tone and texture.

THE MOISTURISER

Launched in 1980, the Ecological Compound is a true beauty icon. Indeed, one sells every 45 seconds worldwide! It's one of our go-to moisturisers – its fluid texture makes application a dream, and it sits comfortably on skin with a matte finish. Now it has got even more covetable in a limited-edition bottle designed by artist Elzbieta Radziwill, to sit pretty on your bathroom shelf.

THE BRONZER

While we continue to monitor the Green List on an almost hourly basis, our complexions simply can’t wait any longer for an authentic looking sun-kissed glow. Happily, Glossier’s Solar Paint fills the void. The gel-crème texture simply melts into skin thanks to the addition of light-reflecting pearls, jojoaba, and aloe. Skin is left with a rested, happy look, as if you've just jetted back from holiday.

THE HAIR MASK

If you don't want to be berated by your hairdresser at your next appointment, you really do need to be incorporating a hair mask into your haircare routine – ideally twice a week. Too many formulas are overly faffy, requiring you to hot-foot it out of the shower to return 15 minutes later to rinse. And who can be bothered with that? I've found the perfect solution for the time-poor – Le Labo's Hinoki Hair Mask. Laced with spirulina and coconut oil, it leaves hair noticably silkier in just three-five minutes.
