Monthly MATCHESFASHION Must-Haves

MATCHESFASHION is our go-to for new season wardrobe heroes.

Forget January, fashion’s new year starts in September. So, what will you pick to usher it in?

We’re looking to MATCHESFASHION for a smart edit of pieces, both from emerging talents – as part of their new Innovators series –, as well as long-cherished established brands. From the timeless autumn classics (think transeasonal coats and must-have boots) to the return of the mini skirt, here’s what’s on CF’s wish list for September.

In partnership with MATCHESFASHION

THE STATEMENT COAT

Finding the right transeasonal jacket to keep you warm, whilst meeting certain sartorial standards, is quite a tall order. We love this iteration from Wales Bonner: the chic leather collar adds a modern sensibility to the retro check print. Falling just below the knee, with a waist-cinching belt, the silhouette is super flattering. The wool-blend fabrication means it's lightweight enough for sunnier September days, whilst the simple addition of a cashmere knit will carry you into the chillier months.

THE SLEEK PUMPS

Party season is tantalisingly close, and so Tom Ford's debut on MATCHESFASHION couldn't be more perferctly timed. It's high time to get your feet readjusted to dancefloor-worthy heels and a pair of sleek pumps, which you can throw on to elevate your look in seconds, is a worthy investment. Impeccably glamorous, and undeniably sexy – this is Tom Ford after all –, these gold-dipped stilettos with dazzling chain details will ensure all attention is on your feet. Wear with tuxedo trousers, micro dresses, and everything in between.

THE PARTY TOP

LVMH Prize Winner, Nensi Dojaka, is one of the freshest names in womenswear at the moment, so it’s no wonder her latest collection has been snapped up by MATCHESFASHION. The brand hallmarks of intricately placed panels and sheer mesh cleverly conceal and reveal the female form, flashing just enough flesh to be sensual and alluring. We love this sleek bodysuit: pair with a sleek pair of cigarette pants to emulate nocturnal glamour.

THE DAY BAG

A new season bag is always a thrilling purchase, and with the handbag on hiatus for most of 2020, it’s more exciting than ever before. Steer away from the usual suspects with this olive-green bag from Saint Laurent. This is understated luxury at its finest: from the smoothest leather, and the polished gold hardware, to the discreet logo. Roomy enough for your essentials, and then some, sling it nonchalantly cross-body or over your shoulder.

THE OCCASION DRESS

We can’t get enough of Alessandra Rich’s designs, and this 80s-inspired dress is no exception. With a high neck, puff-shoulder sleeves, and a drop-waist pleated skirt, it’s ultra-feminine. The motif of freehand polka dots, hearts, and roses, is joyfully playful, whilst the decorative pearls and buttons add an extra dash of glamour.

THE MINI SKIRT

In case you haven’t heard, hemlines have got a little shorter over recent months, and, yes, the mini skirt is well and truly back! If you are yet to embrace the trend, get ready to bare a few more inches. Charles Jeffrey LOVERBOY makes the case for pleats with this kilt-style skirt, punctuated with a smattering of studs. Pair with a slim knit and chunky boots when the temperature drops.

THE STATEMENT KNIT

Excellent knitwear is the cornerstone of every discerning autumn wardrobe. Our love for Victoriana-inspired fashion knows no bounds, and so this Sea sweater – with broderie-anglaise collar and balloon sleeves – more than piqued our interest.

THE HOT COLLAB

You may not be able to buy one of Harris Reed's couture gowns, but you can still add a touch of his Gothic romanticism to your AW wardrobe thanks to a collaboration with demi-fine jeweller, Missoma. This collection is as opulent as you'd expect, and the very definition of conversation-starting jewellery. We love this whimsical, recycled gold-plated pendant, resplendent with pearls and crystals.

THE SUSTAINABLE DENIM

Denim trends come and go, but a classic, straight-leg jean will forever be en vogue. Look to E.L.V. Denim for chic, edgy designs upcycled from denim destined for landfill. The Straight Leg Jeans, constructed from two tones of blue denim and cutting high on the waist, offer a trompe l'œil to pleasingly elongated legs. Simply pair with a white T-shirt, for off-duty cool.

THE ULTIMATE BOOTS

After a late summer heatwave, it’s time to stash away the sandals. For something more befitting of the season you're in, look to Isabel Marant. Get the boot right, and you need not consider your footwear again for the rest of autumn/ winter. We love the bohemian energy of these Isabel Marant suede boots, peppered with silver studs, and supported by a chic cone heel, they are the perfect wardrobe addition for getting more wears out of your floral midi dresses.
