Living Large In Lake Como At Villa Lario

Hidden away in a tiny village, twenty minutes from the city, this small boutique hotel is the ideal place for those hoping to switch off, relax, and enjoy everything that Lake Como has to offer.

Almost invisible from the road, Villa Lario is the perfect hideaway for a romantic escape. While away your time here enjoying boat rides on the lake, gourmet Italian food, and charming village explorations.

The Vibe

Picture a super-private residence in Malibu, supercharged with Italian opulence and elegance.

The Rooms

Talk about a sleek hotel. The decor is purposefully minimalist and rooms are kept mostly monochrome, with whitewashed walls, grey, white and black marble, French oak floors, swish furniture, and, most importantly, A-grade views of the lake. Note: TVs are not provided – the idea is to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, but a small kitchenette with a sink, a small fridge, and the necessary amenities to make coffees and teas is offered in all accommodations.

The property is divided into different structures with two buildings ( The Palazzo and Villa Bianca) hosting most of the suites, as well as two private accommodations (The Pavilion and The Garden Suite). The Palazzo is a restored classical Italian villa perched on the shore of the lake, and is fitted with an incredible terrace overlooking the water as well as a stunning marble reception room. Villa Bianca hosts the rest of the accommodations and the restaurant that opens onto a vast garden. We fell head over heels for the former.

The Little Extras

The private pier, which hosts four sought-after deckchairs, is a special spot to sit back and take in your surrounds. From here you’ll likely be tempted onto the waters for jet-skiing, lake swimming, or some other water-related sporting activity.

If lake activities aren’t for you, take a dip in the gorgeous infinity pool instead. With stunning views of the lake and surrounding hills it offers guest the best of both – a setup further enhanced on ordering a round of extra-chilled spritzes.

The Food + Drink

In the restaurant located inside Villa Bianca, chef Michele Tamburrino prepares simple, mouth-watering Italian dishes, which delicately balance tradition and modernity. Ingredients are carefully selected from all over the peninsula to give guests a real taste of Italy. From handmade pasta and succulent meat, to fresh fish and decadent vegetarian options, there is something delicious for every palate.

Breakfast, served from 8AM to 11AM in the same restaurant, has a smaller selection compared to a classic hotel, but is equally scrumptious – think perfectly cooked eggs served with Italian cheese, fresh fruits, pastries, and locally sourced yogurt.

The To-Do List

If you are feeling adventurous, head to the Water Experience Center in the nearby village of Faggeto (only five minutes away by car) for a water-ski, paddle, or kayak session. Alternatively you can explore the lake by boat or watercraft.

In need of a little downtime? Take advantage of Villa Làrio’s fabulous gardens and spend an afternoon reading in the shade, listening only to the birds singing and the delicate sound of the lake water caressing the shores.
