The Beauty Haul Diaries: Tiffany Salmon

What does it take to start not one, but four businesses during a global pandemic? According to entrepreneur Tiffany Salmon, “a creative spirit, a lot of hard work, and a hint of craziness.”

Tiffany’s journey to creating her own beauty brands was a long time in the making. Joining the family business, Amelia Knight, 15 years ago, she worked as Creative Director creating products behind the scenes for some of the world’s most illustrious beauty brands. With a full-working lab at her fingertips, Salmon decided it was time to carve out a beauty empire of her own. In the space of a mere 18 months she successfully launched four independent brands: Glow Hub is targeted to the Gen Z consumer as an introduction to the world of acids; Scientia offers intelligent glow-giving formulas with an emphasis on natural plant extracts; Soak Sundays is an indulgent bath brand; and Tiffy & Tallulah targets the flourishing mother-daughter audience.

Running a quartet of businesses means downtime is rather limited. Still, when Tiffany’s jetting off on her travels, be it for business or pleasure, her suitcase is always jam packed with a healthy stash of her efficacious serums. Here, we delve into Tiffany’s travel psyche…

What are your must do beauty rituals/treatments before you travel?

I’ll switch up my routine a week or so before travelling to make sure my skin is as dewy, fresh, and healthy as possible to pre-empt the dehydration from the sun, pool, and air-con. I also make sure to have a really strong body regime: body brushing, a good exfoliator, a hydrating body oil, and nourishing body butter, so my skin is soft and hydrated for when I arrive.

How do you adapt your beauty regime when you travel?

I do simplify my routine somewhat, but then make sure to add in extra hydration steps. Usually, I’ll add in a cooling face mask and a hydrating serum – I love the Glow Hub Hydration Hero for this. I also gravitate towards products that come in handy for the beach or poolside. Again, I love the Glow Hub serum mists for this.

What is the best way to down-size your beauty products for travel?

Go for minis: you can pack your full routine and stick to your skincare favourites. This was one of the reasons I created the Glow Hub Gateway To Glow Travel Kit. With mini sizes of a cleanser, serum, and moisturiser – as well as a reusable cleansing cloth – it has all your essentials in a clear, hand-luggage friendly travel bag.

Do you have a regular plane beauty routine?

I have to travel a lot for work and during the flight my skin definitely gets dry and uncomfortable, so I’ve had to get my long-haul skincare routine down to a T! Once I’m settled in, I give my face a quick cleanse, then pop on my Scientia Dusk Elixir letting the lavender, frankincense, and ylang ylang soothe my mind post-airport stress. The blend of amazing natural oils help boost my skin’s natural repair and recovery while I snooze, increasing collagen production and replenishing any lost hydration from the air-con. Next, all that’s left is plenty of water and sleep. Once I’ve woken up, I cleanse again, and apply the Scientia Dawn Elixir to awaken and renew my complexion.

Do you prefer to pack travel minis or full-size beauty staples? And why?

Minis all the way! I am definitely an overpacker when it comes to travel, so I need all the space I can get.

How do you unwind on holiday?

Having my own business really does make it hard to ever fully switch off – it’s so tempting to dip into my emails – but I try to not check my phone. I indulge in a drink or two, and sneak off to a spa if I can.

What’s been your favourite vacation spa so far and why?

The Sani Club in Greece is incredible. The underground spa is so white, calm, and peaceful. Blending indoor and outdoor aesthetics, it’s so tranquil.

How do you overcome jet-lagged skin/eyes when you land?

Scientia’s Notox Youth Boost Eye Serum  has a cooling gel texture, which has been proven to de-puff, lift, hydrate, and tackle dark circles. I really do see an instant effect. I can’t be without the Glow Hub serum mists; they have all the skin benefits of a serum in the handy format of a mist, so are perfect for topping up on-the-go.

What’s been your favourite country to shop for homegrown beauty products?

Pre-pandemic I was lucky to travel a lot for work, and I’ll never forget my trips to Korea. I love seeing what the next biggest thing in K-Beauty is.

What are your top beauty tips when travelling?

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Also, SPF is your BFF.

What’s on your beauty wish list right now?

The Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Foundation. Once I find a foundation I love I am pretty loyal, but this one has me intrigued.

THE PACKING LOWDOWN

Overpacker.

Facial.

Vacation air-dry or blow-dry?

Blow-dry.
