WIN A One-Of-A-Kind Trip To Alentejo, Portugal With Nemo

We’ve teamed up with bespoke travel planning platform, nemo to offer one lucky reader (and their guest) a one-of-a-kind trip to Portugal’s Alentejo region.

A couple of hours south of Lisbon, you’ll meet sprawling landscapes dominated by cork oak trees, undulating hills, and traditional whitewashed villages in the region of Alentejo. This off-the-beaten-path destination is the ideal Portuguese hideaway and one of nemo’s top European retreats. Seeking out your chosen area’s hidden gems, nemo give you the power to design your dream trip online, as you can see in this Off-The-Beaten-Track Portugal trip. From rural Alentejo to the beaches of Comporta, log cabins in Serra de Estrella to wine estates in the Douro Valley, their experts will plan a truly exceptional trip with you, every time.

And so, to the nemo trip at hand… The winner and their guest will be met at the airport by the hotel’s driver and taken to the five-star rural retreat, Relais & Châteaux’s Malhadinha Nova, where they’ll be checking in for two nights. Minimalist in style – think whitewashed walls and simple terracotta floors – the pastoral manor boasts a five-star spa and beautiful infinity pool overlooking the countryside. Switching to ‘vacation mode’ is a cinch here.

After a good night’s sleep at the Country House, Monte da Peceguina, it’s time to indulge in a complimentary breakfast of fruits and fresh pastries, followed by regional meats and cheeses and eggs made to order. Choose to dine in-villa or at one of the estate’s casas; as you wish – it’s your getaway after all. Next, it’s time for some activities – take a late-morning dip in the pool, or make a trip to the neighbouring town of Castro Verde once you’ve gotten acquainted with the estate.

As part of your prize, nemo have pulled some additional strings to arrange a private gourmet wine and picnic set-up in the organic gardens of Herdade dos Lagos, a female-driven organic winery based in Beja. Located in the Vale de Camelos (Valley of Camels) just twenty minutes drive from Herdade da Malhadinha Nova, the family run estate has over 1,000 hectares of natural land where sheep graze amongst some of the finest organic production in the region. You’ll indulge on local delicacies and produce straight from the land whilst pairing each tasting with one of Portugal’s finest organic wine producers. You’ll be joined by a local wine expert giving you all the details behind understanding the production and taste of their delicious wine.

Come evening, you’ll also be treated to a three-course dinner at Malhadinha Nova’s restaurant. The menu – designed by Michelin-starred chef Joachim Koerper and resident chef, Rodrigo Madeira e Vitalina Santos – pays homage to the rich heritage of the Alentejo region, presenting organic farm-to-plate dining at its best. We suggest you opt for a table by the window, overlooking the flaxen-hued grove to enjoy your meal – we think it’s the perfect (high) note to on which to end your time in Alentejo.

The following morning, you’ll tuck into another moreish breakfast before departing for the airport by complimentary transfer. After experiencing a nemo-designed trip, we’re convinced you wont want to travel any other way.
