As Frieze takes hold in LA, we’ve bookmarked the the City of Angels’ artiest hotels – from the Petit Ermitage to Hotel 850 SVB – where you can indulge your creative side.
At Petit Ermitage life revolves around the rooftop pool. One of the city’s hippest spots, the bespoke hotel (just off Santa Monica Boulevard) has a retro feel and ‘specialises in creating an environment that feels more like an artist and performers residency’ than a standard hotel. Whilst here you’ll undoubtedly rub shoulders with a host of rising artists and creative types.
From the man behind the storied Sunset Tower Hotel, Hotel 850 SVB offers visitors a cosy haven in the heart of action. Located at the intersection of West Hollywood and Beverly Hill, the guesthouse-vibes property is perfectly placed for Frieze Los Angeles (which is just a 10-minute drive away). Rita Konig’s comforting interiors, plus the roof deck, with its outdoor fireplace and spanning views of Hollywood, provide the perfect crash pad post-fair, pre-party.
Koreatown’s Line LA is a design-led haven which rests a little over 10-minutes drive from Wilshire Boulevard, where Los Angeles Frieze is located. Rooms are minimalist, the hotel’s exterior is Brutalist, and the crowd here don an amalgam of trend-focused and off-kilter attire. A great spot for those keen to party and network whilst in town.
Fusing ‘old-world glamour and the vibrant and playful spirit of LA’, NoMad Los Angeles is just the place you’d expect the art crowd to gather. Plotted in DTLA, this spot gets full marks for design – plus, when the locals flock to the lushly decorated lobby year-round you know it’s a winner. When Frieze is in session, it’s extra buzzy.
Away from the masses, Hotel Bel-Air is beloved by a privacy-seeking clientele, making it a solid option for those high-profile gallerists and artists craving a little downtime in between key Frieze happenings. Also, as the ‘Bel-Air community is rich in creative talent’, guests can expect a rolling calendar of regular exhibitions of art and photography to peruse over the course of their stay.
