The CF Checklist: March

It’s time to plan your sartorial calendar, aided by March’s dose of The CF Checklist.

March heralds the start of spring, so it’s time to switch up heavier jackets for lighter layers and start planning for warmer days ahead. As ever, we’ve rounded up the key pieces to add to your virtual shopping basket this month, from elevated wardrobe basics to soigné accessories and hot weather-ready resortwear.

THE SPRING JACKET

This Tôteme jacket has become an Instagram sensation over the past month. Whilst most fashion ‘it’ items verge on the impractical, this jacket hits the sweet spot, marrying style and functionality. The felt wool fabrication is a light gateway into spring wear; the built-in scarf is also a chic novelty. Whilst the original black version has now sold out practically everywhere, it’s now available in a camel hue, perfect for your transeasonal wardrobe.

THE LUXE DENIM

Denim is a year-round component of most of my outfits, but as March ushers in the start of spring, I'm switching up darker grey and black denim for lighter blue hues. AGOLDE is my forever go-to for unexpected twists on classic silhouettes, plus the denim always holds its shape wear-after-wear. This straight silhouette is cut with a high rise, with the welcome effect of lengthening legs, and the criss cross button-front detail adds a cool, luxe feel.

THE CLOGS

If you didn’t quite get on board with the clog trend last year – “too orthopaedic, too clompy, too ugly” I hear you say – SS22 offers you a second bite of the cherry. This season the unexpected hero shoe has been given the high fashion stamp of approval thanks to Prada. Crafted from Italian leather, replete with stud details, and finished with the signature enamel triangle logo for an instantly recognisable look, if there’s anyone who’s going to convince us to jump on the bandwagon, it’s Miuccia Prada.

THE BAG

From the Alexa, to the Bayswater, Mulberry has created some of the most iconic ‘it’ bags and now they welcome a brand-new design, The Softie. Crafted from a pillowy soft leather (as the name would suggest) the bag is so tactile, you may find yourself hugging it close for comfort. Available in three sizes and an array of punchy hues, we are particularly keen on the Little Softie in tobacco brown for maximum wearability.

THE SPRING-READY FLORALS

ZIMMERMANN’s SS22 collection, The Dancer, has just dropped. As expected, it’s a harmonious symphony of beautiful floral dresses, ripe for any summer season occasion. Whilst we would happily snap up the entire collection, it is this flirtatious and feminine mini dress which is at the top of our wish list. The fitted bodice and waist-cinching belt, coupled with the blouson sleeves and relaxed skirt, makes for a flattering and playful silhouette. Wear with sandals on your next hot weather jaunt.

THE COOL GIRL PEARLS

Melanie Georgacopoulos’ designs for Japanese pearl and jewellery house TASAKI, under her M/G TASAKI line, offer a cool-girl take on the traditional jewellery box stalwart. Her new collection, Wedge, cuts into the delicate pearl at a ¾ angle, enrobing the exposed edges in yellow gold, for a spectacular play with light and texture at every angle. We'll be pairing this ring and ear cuff for a bold look that is elegant and edgy in equal measure.

THE RESORTWEAR

Sustainable swimwear brand PAOLITA has us clambering to step on the plane to sunnier climes with its Mediterranean Love summer collection. Spanning seven print stories, the ornately hand-drawn 'Circe’s Garden' references Greek mythology. This silk long sleeve kimono will look glamorous draped over one of the corresponding swimsuits pool-side, or makes a great day-to-night piece worn with white palazzo pants.

THE WARDROBE STAPLE

Ninety Percent is synonymous with beautifully made, sustainable wardrobe staples which are built to last. This timeless black bodysuit, is a savvy essential. Paired with denim, city shorts, or layered under sheer dresses for extra coverage, it fits like a second skin and will work hard for you.

THE MINI SKIRT

The mini skirt is very much making a comeback. It was all over the runways for SS22 last autumn, and so it’s time to embrace a shorter hemline. I’m coveting emerging Georgian brand, KEBURIA’s sculptural take with this powder blue dogtooth iteration. Paired with the matching blazer, it’s very Jackie O with a modernist twist.

THE SUNGLASSES

If you are in the market for chic, affordable, and universally flattering eyewear, Féroce is the brand to know. Each of the beautifully constructed frames are made from Mazzucchelli acetate: a high-quality renewable cellulose made from wood pulp and natural cotton fibres. So you are helping the planet too. The Heather silhouette is the stand-out design: an elongated cat-eye that works for practically all face shapes.

THE WORK TO PLAY DRESS

As many of us return to the office, we are looking for fresh pieces to switch up our spring workwear wardrobe. We want versatile looks that work from day to night – and conference calls to cocktails. Sustainable contemporary womenswear label, Ro & Zo is a treasure trove of effortless throw on dresses in feminine, timeless prints, such as this midi dress. It has serious cost-per-wear, and will work with myriad outerwear options thanks to its considered monochrome palette.
