Meet FOLKLORE, the Kuwait-based accessories brand taking your Instagram feed by storm.

Established in 2014 by Central Saint Martins Graduate, Haya Al Adulkareem, FOLKLORE is the under-the-radar accessories brand to know about. Crafted from Italian leather and focusing on craftsmanship to create sculptural silhouettes, FOLKLORE bags are playful and sophisticated in equal measure.

Here we delve into Haya Al Adulkareem’s travel recommendations, from escaping to the Greek islands to clever packing tips.

What is the first trip you remember taking?

I was really young and I travelled with my grandparents to Holland. I remember that’s the first time I ever saw snow.

Where or what is your escape?

A beach destination always feels like an escape for me. Especially the Greek islands.

What’s your most memorable trip and why?

My honeymoon for sure. We spent a month travelling around the globe; from Cuba and LA, to Bora Bora and Japan.

If you could go anywhere tomorrow it would be…

Greece: there’s a special kind of feeling you get in the Greek islands. It’s a certain vibe that you won’t feel anywhere else. The laid-back summer nights of a Greek summer is always my go-to vacation.

What’s your idea of a luxury holiday?

It has to be a holiday on a boat. Spending time in the middle of the water with nothing around you has a special feeling like no other.

What is your favourite ever hotel?

Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum. The spa has to be one of the best I’ve ever visited.

Where do you get your holiday inspiration?

I do most of the research online. I absolutely love planning trips. I always try to ask any friends that have recently visited or lived in the country I’m visiting.

How do you switch off?

A good playlist and sound-blocking headphones.

If you could be sat next to anyone on a plane it would be?

Bill Gates – I just have so many questions I want to ask him.

What is your ultimate bucket-list destination?

Bali or Brazil. I have never been before, and I really would love to experience the culture and sightsee.

What’s on your travel playlist?

Some chill house, so I can just zone out.

What is your jet-lag recovery tip?

Coffee and a good TV show.

Who is your favourite travel companion?

My friend Olga: she’s always up for anything and loves to travel.

What is your suitcase stalwart?

I’ve collected an amazing collection of vintage jewellery and accessories over the years which go everywhere with me. Jewellery can have the biggest impact on your outfit, and when it’s vintage, it’s so much more individual.

What is your number one packing tip?

Plan your outfits per day/night and always have a few extra options – because you never know how you will feel.

What is your most-treasured purchase from your travels?

On my honeymoon in Mexico, there was this elderly lady selling traditional Mexican hand-embroidered dresses. I found this tiny dress and purchased it for whenever I got pregnant with a little girl. I still have it, and when my daughter finally arrived six years later it was perfect for her.

Where is home and what are your must-do’s for any tourists visiting?

Home is Kuwait. My absolute favourite thing to do is to go camping in the desert during the cooler months. I love the quietness and secluded vibe away from the city, plus you might spot some camels.

First thing that comes to your mind…

Hand-luggage essential?

Lip balm.

Beach or city break?

Beach.

Packing: roll or fold?

Fold.

Music or podcast?

Music.

In-flight book or in-flight film?

Book.

Time filler on a long-haul flight?

Sleep.

Holiday tipple of choice?

Aperol Spritz.

Ultimate holiday treat?

A good spa day.
