The Beauty Haul Diaries: Lisa Eldridge

Lisa Eldridge is a force field in the world of make-up artistry, having worked on avant-garde beauty editorials through to painting the faces of the most celebrated of A-listers.

When she isn’t jetting between Paris, New York, and Japan, Eldridge is also Global Creative Director of Lancôme, creating the next products for her own beauty brand, which launched in 2018, as well as filming tutorials for her YouTube channel and Instagram, so followers can mimic her signature look.

Eldridge tells us: “Complexion is my first love and my signature look that my work has become synonymous with is naturally perfected skin. My secret to achieving this is to use my Patchwork Skin and Pinpoint Concealing techniques. This involves buffing in thin layers and applying product only where coverage is necessary, to let your natural beauty shine through!”

Equipped with a coterie of multitasking products we delve into Lisa Eldridge’s on-the-go beauty rituals.

How do you adapt your beauty regime when you travel?

When I travel I will always ensure my beauty routine contains products that will help my skin stay hydrated – especially if there’s a long-haul flight involved.  Multitasking products are key: I have been loving using the VENN Age-Reversing All-in-One Concentrate on my travels recently. I have found eliminates the need to take a separate serum, moisturiser, and eye cream.

Do you have a regular plane beauty routine?

I like to turn every plane journey into a spa opportunity, I know it might seem a bit extreme to sit on a plane with a face mask on, massaging my face with an odd-looking silver roller, but I admit I go to great lengths to kill the boredom. As I’m so often travelling for work, I want to make sure I land with fresh, glowy skin. I do occasionally get a funny look, but I don’t care because I find it relaxing – and fun.

How do you unwind on holiday?

It takes me a while to switch off. I’m usually organising myself on the first day or two, then after that I can really relax into it! It also depends where I am, but you can’t underestimate the power of losing yourself in a brilliant book. I will always look to take one that hooks me in quickly, as it keeps me off my phone.

What has been you favourite vacation spa so far and why?

Austrian spas like the Mayr Clinic and Lanserhof are some of my favourite places to visit. I love the no-nonsense approach. I also really enjoy hiking, so I love visiting the Dolomites. I much prefer a summer holiday where I can lose myself in the wildflowers on the mountains, rather than being hot and bothered on a beach.

How do you overcome jet-lag skin when you land?

Cold things! As soon as I touch down, I’ll put all my skincare and massage tools in the mini-bar fridge. On the actual flight – as the eye area is so fragile and vulnerable to cabin area and dehydration – you want to stop any adverse effects in their tracks. I love the DIEUX Forever Eye Masks, which are reusable eye patches, much better than wasteful single-use, under-eye masks.

What is your expert tip on ensuring your make-up lasts in the heat on holiday?

Thin layers are the secret. The first thin layer should look imperceivable on the skin, as it’s so well-blended. Any further layers of concealer or foundation should also be blended well. This technique will mean the make-up is almost part of you, and isn’t just sitting on top of your skin.

Can you give some expert tips on creating a five-minute make-up look?

Everyone’s five minutes should look different! Adapt it to perfecting the areas where you think need most focus or attention. Beauty isn’t a one-size-fits-all.

What is your favourite location to shop for homegrown beauty?

The first time I went to Japan it blew my mind. I couldn’t believe the variety of the vast product selection available. I still take an empty suitcase whenever I go there, just to bring back all my amazing beauty finds.

What’s on your beauty wish list right now?

We’ve been experiencing extreme heat in London recently, so top of the beauty wish list has been ice cubes wrapped in a muslin cloth, gently pressed on my face. So refreshing.
