Hot Hotels: Citizen Enfants' Luxe Autumn Escapes

Whether you want an active weekend away with your little ones, or a relaxing family break, these child-friendly luxe hotels make the perfect choice this autumn.

Calcot Manor Hotel

Interiors fans will adore Calcot’s brand new family suites. Interior designer, Cathy Birtles, has used the likes of Little Greene paint, Rapture and Wright fabrics, Cole and Son wallpaper, and Porto Romano lighting to create beautiful designs in the two-bedroom suites, which also have spacious living areas and come stocked with family essentials such as highchairs and cots.

One of the first five-star hotels in the UK to offer a truly family-friendly experience, Calcot really understand that just because you are travelling with children, you don’t want to compromise on style. There’s no wipe-clean plastic here. What there is, is plenty to do: from tennis courts, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, to cycling and walking trails. Plus, a dreamy spa and top-notch restaurants. Calcot really want every member of the family to have an equally great time; their Play Barn includes a 12-seater cinema and offers four hours of complimentary childcare per day, so parents have a chance to relax too.

The Four Seasons Hampshire

One hour from London, the Four Seasons in Hampshire feels a world away. This is a beautifully cultivated estate where five-star luxury meets picture-perfect English countryside.

On arrival little ones will be handed their very own kid’s passport including a map of the vast property and different challenges to complete during their stay, giving them the chance to plan their own little getaway, whether they feel like visiting the onsite equestrian centre with its program of lessons, hacks, and carriage rides, or maybe a dip at ‘Sharkie’s Reef’ adventure pool. Head to the forest to discover a high-wire adventure playground, a zip line, a giant seesaw, and even a parachute simulator.

And don’t worry if you forget anything – they have it covered. From swim nappies to sterilisers and bed guards, this hotel aims to make parent’s lives as easy as possible by providing all the essentials you need with little ones.

The Gleneagles Hotel

Nothing says Autumn more than a Highland walk followed by board games next to a roaring fire, and Gleneagles is the perfect place for both.

The legendary sporting estate has over 50 different activities, ticking every box for the dream family break. As well as their supervised indoor creche for guests aged two and up, Little Glen, the hotel’s brand-new outdoor kids club, The Little Garden, will have younger guests pond dipping and bug hunting, while older children will love the mini-Landover driving course, falconry, archery, fishing and even a chance to play with the resident ferrets. Babysitters are on hand for very little children, while tweens and teens can hang out in The Den playing air hockey and giant Jenga. And let’s not forget the world-class golf, spa and award-winning restaurants for parents. It’s not called ‘The Glorious Playground’ for nothing.

The Lanesborough

If you’re planning a stay in the Capital with kiddos, then the Lanesborough is the spot. Nothing is too much trouble for this ultra-swish London landmark. Their Little VIP Club is for children aged up to 16, and a dedicated concierge team can arrange everything from in-house mocktail lessons and splash hours in the beautiful pool, to treasure hunts around the hotel and riding lessons in Hyde Park.

Children’s beds are made up using Little White Company linen and, if you really want to go all out, the hotel’s partners Notorious Kids will transform your room into a teddy bear’s picnic or a magical den with tepees – you name it, and they will create it. Babysitting and in-room dining can be arranged too. For a truly bespoke London break, this is the hotel to book and our top tip is to book the children’s afternoon tea – it’s sensational!

Watergate Bay

Cornwall’s beautiful beaches are not just for summer. Sunny autumn mornings are ideal for long walks along the sand, and even a spot of swimming or surfing on calmer days – though a wetsuit might come in handy. For those who love a coastal getaway and have young children in tow, Watergate Bay Hotel is fantastic. Their Ofsted Registered Kids’ Zone offers supervised sessions for those aged from six months, while older children can hang out in the XA Club with pool tables, table tennis, film nights, and cookery classes.

Elsewhere, there’s a babysitting and baby monitoring service, and little ones can eat early in the restaurant. But it’s not all about the kids – parents can try out surf lessons, yoga on the beach, and supper at Zacry’s restaurant overlooking one of the most beautiful beaches in the UK. Watergate Bay is the kind of hotel the whole family will never want to leave.
