This Week CF Loves: 14.11.22

We’re planning indulgence and post-indulgence recovery.

We’re also planning the perfect Christmas shopping pitstop (thanks Manthan), divine tablescaping to wow our guests this season (thanks Maison Margaux), and filling our baskets and stomachs with all sorts of independently sourced goodies.

Add to basket. Bookmark. You know the drill. This is what we’re loving this week.

EAT HERE Manthan

Anywhere that Rohit Ghai has made his stamp, you can rest assured you’re in excellent hands for a sublime Indian meal. Following his previous successes at Gymkhana and Jamavar, Rohit Ghai’s Manthan in Mayfair is his latest venture. While the restaurant draws on his childhood in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, the menu features traditional dishes “with a contemporary twist”, including goat shami kebab in bone marrow sauce, pyaz kachori — a take on the ram ladoo, a street food favourite — with mooli, yellow lentil and pomegranate, and more. As far as game changing dishes go, the Indian version of an Osso Bucco is the one. Along with Ghai, co-founder and front of house Abhi Sangwan focuses on cocktails inspired by the seven oceans of the world. It’s an ideal spot post Christmas shopping, located just off Bond Street and Oxford Street, all in utterly opulent, sexy interior surrounds.

RENT THIS Maison Margaux

It’s time to start thinking about the holiday season, a time for friends, family and feasting! Creating a beautiful setting might be a daunting experience if it weren’t for Maison Margaux, the fash pack’s favourite luxury tableware brand. The stylish collection of crockery, glassware and linen features rich burgundies, deep navy, and sumptuous golds laid on a backdrop of intricate florals, bold geometrics and playful tartans, topped off with a generous helping of winter foliage and florals. Creative director Louisa Preskett-Mobbs is also on hand to offer tips and tricks to help any budding hosts: ‘Layering instantly brings height and elegance to a dining table. We always work with the rule of three, so a charger or placemat, a dining platem, and a top plate.’ This is entertaining made easy, with a sustainable twist – buy or rent beautiful tablescape designs (great for those with limited storage at home).

GO HERE Another Pantry, Seven Dials

Following the sell-out pop up grocery store in Coal Drops Yard back in March, Another Pantry returns, this time in Seven Dials, Covent Garden. With artisan goods from renowned independent restaurants, bakeries, and British-based food businesses, the concept supports and celebrates the hospitality industry, encouraging us to think about where food comes from, whether we’re dining in or out.

Expect loaves of Café Cecilia’s coveted Guinness Bread wrapped up to enjoy at home – these aren’t available anywhere outside of the restaurant – along with Autumn provisions in time for the festive season from Coombeshead Farm and first access to Merlin-Labron Johnson’s new brand Maison Osip from his Somerset restaurant, featuring tableware, candles, coffee, as well as his sell-out cider. There will be freshly-baked banana bread and salted caramel rum loaves from Violet Bakery, a new retail range from Happy Endings, and vermouth and mulled wine from Top Cuvée. Start your Christmas shopping now, perhaps something for yourself too?

ENJOY THIS The Fabulous World of Dior at Harrods

As of this week, London department store Harrods has been transformed into a gingerbread-filled wonderland by the House of Dior – just in time for the festive season. Providing its own interpretation of the festive season in an unprecedented takeover of the prestigious shopping destination, Parisian brand Dior’s window displays are a monumental, illuminated installation across the façade, featuring various Dior emblems, including the compass rose (the centrepiece of the exterior, measuring 17-metres-squared), golden star, bar jacket, and medallion chair. Inside, you’ll find installations from the house on every floor, including an ephemeral café and two special pop-ups (limited-edition products will be available in each). The takeover also features a special immersive exhibition comprising delicate creations in gingerbread, evoking a festive village. Memorable locations linked with Dior – from Granville, the Normandy villa where Christian Dior grew up, to 30 Avenue Montaigne, spiritual home of the house – are reimagined in miniature, featuring various characters from its history as gingerbread people. This is not a tourist trap, this is one for everyone to see.

STAY HERE Zenbo Seinei, Japan

Is it too early to start thinking of resolutions next year? If balance, zen, and meditation may be on the list, we suggest a sneak peak at Zenbo Seinei, sitting high above Japan’s Awaji Island, a soul-nourishing retreat that includes meditation, food, and rest. Described as a place to experience zen as guests enjoy an escape from urban life, this newly opened wellness retreat, designed by Pritzker-Prize-winning architect Shigeru Ban, is for visitors to regain some balance in their busy lives with holistic treatments, plant-based Zenbo meals, and quiet soaks in the onsen. Located at the top of the structure in an open air, 100-metre-long platform in the sky, light-filled spaces built with latticework frames provide a 360-degree view of the surrounding mountainscape, built along the meridian 135-degree east line, which was used to establish Japan Standard Time in the Meiji Era (1868-1912). Guests can partake in yoga classes on the first floor, whilst on the entire second floor you’ll find a minimalist space designed for practising zazen meditation.  Day visits (including yoga, meditation, calligraphy, and tea) or overnight stays are available.
