This Week CF Loves: 21.11.22

We’re deep in cosy season, ready for fluffy scarves, winter jackets and.. yes, ice skating.

Indulgent velvet robes and the best sea bass in town, handmade ceramics and weekend getaways. You’ll want to add all to your wishlist this week.

EAT HERE The Connaught Grill, The Connaught Hotel

In the heart of Mayfair, The Connaught is one of London’s finest hotels, with an incredible gourmet offering to match. Its ground floor restaurant, The Connaught Grill, is perfect for cosying up in this winter. Pared back interiors by John Heah form a subtle backdrop in which to showcase pieces – from dining booths and signature Conoid chairs to large wall panels – by the renowned American woodworker, George Nakashima. Enter via a hallway lined with bottles of one-of-a-kind wine and art by Idris Khan and Annie Morris, before sitting down to enjoy classic grill dishes with a modern twist including a Pie of the Day, a whole wild sea bass en croute, and a hearty Sunday roast, carved table-side in true old-school Connaught style. Traditional British favourites also appear on the dessert menu, overseen by executive pastry chef Nicolas Rouzaud (think sticky toffee pudding served with butterscotch sauce) and the cheese trolley is not to be missed.

GO HERE Jo Malone Glide Ice Rink, Battersea Power Station

London’s brand new, and only riverside ice rink, ‘Glide’, opens at the newly-refurbished Battersea Power Station. Brought to us by Jo Malone, this is more than just a rink. After your skate, enjoy live entertainment, hop on a vintage funfair ride, or chill out with a mulled wine in a cosy cabin. Plus there’ll be the opportunity to sample local food vendors, or a series of curated evening entertainment. Capturing all the fun of a snow day, here you can enjoy everything from après-skate to a glass elevator with 360-degree views of London’s skyline. You can even visit the Jo Malone pop-up store (next to the rink) to make your way through your Christmas gift list. Family outings and date nights are covered, all with the iconic backdrop of Battersea Power Station.

BUY THIS Deborah Brett Ceramics

After a twenty year stint as a fashion journalist for The Times, Harper’s Bazaar, Red magazine and ELLE, Deborah Brett retrained as a ceramicist, honing her technique in her west London studio. Deborah is the kind of woman you want to know, and know more about. And her new collection is one you will definitely want in your home set. The debut collection includes delicate bowls, contemporary dinner plates, bud vases, generous platters and more, hand finished in Brett’s signature blue bubble glaze. Just in time for Christmas tablescaping.

STAY HERE Pillows Hotel Maurits at the Park, Amsterdam

A monumental 20th-century building has been given new life as a luxury five-star hotel, following a delicate and meticulous transformation process. Meet Maurits at the Park, Central Amsterdam’s luxe new hotel. Conceived with a cosmopolitan meeting place in mind, the grand structure blends moments of Parisian elegance and Dutch sophistication with warm, earthy, colour palettes successfully bringing a relaxed ambiance throughout. Gastronomy is celebrated in every way: VanOost offers fine dining, ‘worldly cuisine’, with dishes prepared in an open kitchen while you sit under fifteen-metre-high ceilings, calling to the illustrious Tropenmuseum next door; a more casual, playful touch welcomes you at Spring Cafe Brasserie (indoor and outdoor dining) artfully combining the best of Italian and French cuisine; evening cocktails await at 1920’s inspired Fitz’s Bar; and don’t miss sunset drinks at the rooftop bar, with stunning views of the neighbouring park.
