A Seat At The Bar: Miracle at Henrietta Hotel

A dash(er) of spiced gin or gingerbread bourbon may have you prancing around like Comet and Cupid at Miracle Bar, Covent Garden.

If you were to guide a tourist towards London’s most festive spaces, Covent Garden would be high on the list. But beyond the towering tree on the public plaza, stores selling under-the-tree-worthy gifts for even the fussiest of friends and, this year, Dolce & Gabbana’s pop-up Christmas market, there might be a surprise for even those who think they know all of the capital’s Christmassy hideouts.

In our column, A Seat At The Bar we showcase the world’s best bars – from plush cocktail spots to dive bars, and everything in-between. This month, we’re spotlighting Miracle at Henrietta Hotel.

Head inside the Henrietta Hotel, up the stairs to the left of Da Henrietta (the hotel’s Italian restaurant) and prepare yourself for a Christmas Miracle…

The Lowdown

This is, unquestionably, London’s most festive bar.

For the fifth year, Miracle Bar at The Henrietta Hotel in London’s Covent Garden is back. This 70s inspired, ever-so-kitsch, more than OTT bar began life as a New York pop up in 2014 and has since spread to 90 locations across the States, Asia, and Central America.

Don’t expect small hints at the season here, this is an all out maximalist’s vision of Christmas incarnated. Set to a sprinkling of Mariah Carey (and all the other Christmas classics), staff serve festive concoctions in a room that is, quite simply, a riot of colours. Decorations cover the room, floor-to-ceiling, in every form imaginable; tinsel, disco balls, wreaths, LED-Santa signs, larger-than-life candy canes, chairs draped in (faux) furs, and a blanket of fake snow set the scene in this uber-Christmassy bar.

What To Order

Everything! Ok, we don’t actually recommend you order everything from this menu of 10 cocktails and two shots, but we can safely tell you to order anything. From the Christmapolitan to the Holiday Spiked Chai or the Jingle Balls Nog, you can’t go far wrong if you’re hoping to get into the festive mood; some come with hints of cinnamon or nutmeg, others with cranberry or orange bitters – but each and every one tastes just like Christmas. If you’re after Insta-worthy photos, opt for the Hot Buttered Rum (rum, velvet falernum, spiced butter, oatmilk, and nutmeg) served in a Santa mug, or the Grandma Got Run Over By A T-Rex (vodka, orange liquor, spiced pomegranate, aloe vera, and aromatic bitters) served in a T-Rex mug, complete with Santa hat.

Peckish? Book in for dinner at Da Henrietta downstairs, either before or after your two hour slot at Miracle. It’s a modern Italian restaurant serving cuisine such as arancini, king-oyster mushroom skewers, and grey mullet carpaccio alongside fresh pastas and meats. You can also order from their bar menu, served right to your table.

Who To Bring

This is the perfect place for a friend date, a girls’ get together, or even a work party. Just be sure that all guests really love Christmas before you commit, as there’s no escaping it here.

When To Go

From now until the 23rd December. Otherwise you’ll need to wait until 2023: this is a pop up bar that only opens once a year, throughout the Christmas season. Book here, slots last two hours.

The Dress Code

Anything goes, but this is the perfect opportunity to jump on the festive bandwagon in some sparkly shoes or a shimmery shirt. Expect to see your fair share of Christmas jumpers and reindeer headbands while here, too. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
