What The CF Team Are Loving This January

In need of some inspiration for an uplifting January?

Welcome to the Citizen Femme team’s list of things to eat, buy, watch, try, and experience this month. This is the ultimate inspiration to help banish those January blues.

STAY With a busy Christmas period, I’m welcoming a little solo time out (as has aptly been pointed out in this month’s horoscopes) so I’m booking myself a spa day in the capital at my favourite, The Lanesborough Club & Spa. The treatments send me off into a dreamy wonderland. BUY I love a staple piece of jewellery that I can wear day-to-night, so I’ve got my eye on this Alemdara Hamra Hand of Hamsa Bracelet. LISTEN My goal is to read more, but with little time on my hands, I’m enjoying my Audible membership. On my list are Geneva by Richard Armitage and Marple, penned by twelve acclaimed female authors. EAT I’m really excited to try the French-Mediterranean influenced menu at Claude Bosi and Samyukta Nair’s new venture, SOCCA, on South Audley Street, Mayfair. TRY I’ve just invested in a Peloton at home, and can’t wait to get started.

STAY I’ll be staying very much at home this month! I travelled a lot during December and need some down time to rest, reset and focus on my goals for the year ahead. BUY This Soho Home Bianco candle – after gifting one to my boyfriend for Christmas, I now want one for myself. It’s the perfect addition to any coffee table and smells divine. WATCH Ricky Gervais’ After Life is back for a third (and final) season on Netflix this month. EAT Veganuary is here and I love seeing restaurants adding vegan dishes to their menus. As a vegan for many years – and a big Italian food lover – Sicilian-inspired restaurant Norma’s vegan tasting menu is on my list. TRY After a rather long exercise hiatus this Christmas, I’m looking forward to getting back to my regular Reformer Pilates classes and trying out new studios on ClassPass.

STAY Cosy staycation season is here and I can’t stop browsing the new rentals over on Kip Hideaways, like this dreamy forest lodge on the East Sussex coast, complete with spherical floating wood burner and deep-soaking tub. VISIT Find me in the stalls at the Ambassadors Theatre to catch comedy sensation Liz Kingsman’s One Woman Show – guaranteed to chase away the January blues. BEAUTY There’s nothing better than a visit to the Nicola Clarke at John Frieda salon to see hair colourist John Clark, the master of luxe-looking shades and entertaining chat. EAT It’s time to embrace Veganuary for the third year in a row and I can’t wait to try Acme Fire Cult in Dalston, where vegetables take centre stage on the restaurant’s outdoor grill. BUY Dry Jan is a thing in our house, so for some variety, I’m investing in Aarke’s super sleek Carbonator 3 which promises perfect sparkling water in less than 10 seconds. SEE I love a good heist thriller, and with eight episodes (identified by colour rather than number) that you can choose to watch in any order, Netflix’s new show Kaleidoscope has got my attention.

STAY In desperate need of some warmth, I’m longing to go back to The Ritz Carlton Al Wadi Desert in Ras al Khaimah, UAE. It’s close enough to Dubai for some fun, but far enough away to get lots of downtime in the sun, too. BUY A luxury, handmade globe from Bellerby & Co. One of their desktop globes would make the perfect addition to my home office, and help me research where to visit during 2023 (as if I need any more encouragement!) EAT There’s been a flurry of high-end West African restaurants opening in London over the last few years, and Akoko in Fitzrovia, inspired by the cuisines of Nigeria, Ghana and Senegal, is high on my list of places to try. LISTEN To the Dior Talks Podcast: Dior Lady Art; each episode is in conversation with one of the 11 artists who have reinterpreted the Lady Dior handbag for its 7th edition. I wouldn’t mind getting a hold of one of the bags, either. The Brian Calvin version has caught my eye… TRY The newly introduced mocktails at The Langham’s Artisan Bar; they’ve introduced three to their menu this January – Good, Darkness and Moon – and, after an indulgent festive season, I’ll be welcoming them wholeheartedly.

STAY A short weekend at Cliveden House to ease into January gently. I want to make the most of their beautiful spa, have dinner in their gorgeous dining room overlooking the gardens and read by the fire in one of their drawing rooms. BUY I love these earrings from Le Touquet – they’re beautifully made by Architect Paula Canellada and are the perfect way to add something special to an otherwise simple outfit. READ I’m trying to make a concentrated effort to read more this year; I’ll be finishing Red Notice by Bill Browder before moving on to something like George Orwell’s The Road to Wigan Pier. EAT I love to order food from Skandl Market. Not only do they source amazing food from global cuisines ready for you to cook at home, but they also cater amazing dinner parties. Staying in this January just got more glamorous. BEAUTY I’ve recently discovered EviDenS overnight recovery solution mask. It’s and easy and effective mask to leave on all night.

STAY in a peaceful villa at Amanjena in Marrakesh – a place I always dream about when the weather is cold and grey. BUY a pair of RAINS gloves, to replace the one I lost on our family dog walk over Christmas. WATCH Not one but three of my favourite detective shows, which all start a new series in January. I’ll be playing ‘whodunit’ over Death in Paradise, Happy Valley and Silent Witness. EAT Fresh, homemade gluten-free bread courtesy of a bread baker we’re bringing back to my place in London. TRY A facial that’s as good for your mind as it is for your face: Pamela Marshall’s bespoke treatment at Mortar & Milk will transform how you see and treat your skin, with brilliant product recommendations from Exuviance too.

STAY The Hotel San Francesco Al Monte for some of the best views of Naples. BUY I really want to start the year right with a new statement purse. This Nisida Mini Tote by Tramontano, characterised by their signature golden snake handles, has caught my eye. READ Chilean-American author Isabel Allende is always a good choice if you want to read fiction. Her latest novel Violeta is a fictional autobiography filled with magic and humour and I can’t put it down. EAT Whenever I want real homemade Italian food, I head to La Mia Mamma on Hollywood Road. Every month a new “mamma” prepares a menu with typical dishes from their region in Italy. It’s an absolute delight. LOVE Chantecaille’s Cheek Gelée in the shade Happy adds some colour to my cheeks during these colder months, with a hydration boost as a bonus.

STAY Switzerland is one of my favourite places to ski and the newly opened Six Senses in Crans-Montana is on my list of hotels to book. The resort is snow-sure with sunny south facing slopes and miles of picture-perfect runs.  EAT I’m looking forward to trying the new Mount St. Restaurant restaurant in Mayfair. I’ve heard great things about the menu and I can’t wait to see their amazing art collection, too. SEE Later this month I’m going to see the new Mandela musical which tells the story of the leader’s life and how he changed the course of history. I’m sure it will be hugely emotional and incredibly inspiring. BUY In just five weeks I’ll be hitting the slopes in Zermatt and I’m already planning my skiing outfits. A new Perfect Moment sweater from Matches Fashion is calling my name. TRY I was given a gorgeous Westman Atelier blusher recently and I’m now in love with her products. Next on my list is the Lit Up highlighting stick.
