Tweak Of The Week: Eye Bright by Dr Maryam Zamani

Tweak of the Week is Citizen Femme’s in-depth beauty treatment and tweakment review series, featuring the CF team’s tried-and-tested recommendations for facials, massages and injectables.

This week Citizen Femme’s beauty editor, Becki Murray, reviews Eye Bright by Dr Maryam Zamani; a natural-looking solution designed to end her quest for revitalising tired eyes. Read on for the full review.

What is Eye Bright by Dr Maryam Zamani?

Eye Bright is a treatment that targets dark circles, sagging and puffiness, to help refresh and brighten the delicate skin around the eye area. The therapy uses a bespoke combination of needle-based treatments, including Light Eyes ultra mesotherapy and hyaluronic acid dermal fillers

Dr Maryam Zamani is an award-winning aesthetic doctor and oculoplastic surgeon, who is known for employing a bespoke, less-is-more approach, especially around the eyes. Eye Bright helps her achieve that, as it rejuvenates and volumises the eye area without the need for invasive surgery. Every patient is treated completely individually; with the exact quantity of mesotherapy and HA filler, plus where exactly it is placed, designed on a case-by-case basis per client.

What does the treatment actually involve?

The Eye Bright treatment involves a combination of skin-rejuvenating injections administered around the eye area – specifically along the under eye and brow bone. This is done alongside the use of topical anaesthetic, aka numbing cream.

Depending on the individual’s preference and skin goals, hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are used to restore volume, which helps to decrease the appearance of dark circles and smooth the skin. They also work to hydrate the complexion, smoothing dehydration lines and crepiness.

Mesotherapy injections are also administered. These Light Eyes microinjections contain a combination of vitamins, minerals and essential amino acids, which are designed to help stimulate collagen and elastin production. This in turn helps restore vitality to the eye area, improving skin texture and tone.

The total number of injections, and amount of each injectable used, varies, although a good estimate is ten injections per eye as a base line. The treatment time itself can be between 10-15 minutes, so it’s relatively fast too.

Tried and tested: what is it like to experience Eye Bright by Dr Maryam Zamani?

The waiting room at Dr Maryam Zamani’s Chelsea-based clinic is not your traditional cold, clinical space – there’s cosy burgundy sofas, playful ornaments and eye-catching art to keep any nerves at bay. The doctor’s manner once you’re in her treatment room helps with that too – she’s thorough but friendly; ready to put you at ease.

At your consultation, it’s important to Dr Zamani that you do most of the talking, focusing on what you’re noticing in the mirror and your skin goals for around the eye area. That way – instead of a one size fits all approach to injections – she can tailor her placement to ensure you get the result you are looking for (ask her for her impressive ‘before’ and ‘afters’ as well to confirm your expectations).

Then, after a medical questionnaire and your own ‘before’ photograph, it’s time to get comfortable on the treatment bed. From here, Dr Zamani will talk you through the process again, in a calming, easy-to-understand manner, while applying the much-needed numbing cream.

After that, it’s onto the injections – which Dr Zamani administers with a swift, experienced hand. It takes all of 10-15 minutes depending on your dose (meaning you actually spend more time discussing the treatment – a sign of good pre-treatment care – then actually getting it done).

It’s true the small needles hurt – imagine the scratch of a blood test and a sharp sting, described accurately as mild to moderate pain – but the feeling is fleeting. For context, the pain is common with injectable treatments, especially around the eyes. Dr Zamani is on hand with tissues if your eyes water and keeps you fully informed about where she is injecting and why (with a countdown of how many are left if that helps you). There’s no hurry to stand-up straight away.

Then before you know it, you’re done. A quick look in the mirror and you’ll see that you’ll be able to go about your day quite normally. You’re left with a slight sensation from the numbing cream but nothing enduring and your eyes don’t puff up or hurt post-treatment. Some slight bruising is possible. Some people even see an immediate brightening effect as the injections can stimulate some instant de-puffing in the area.

Who is the treatment suitable for?

Anyone looking to brighten their eye area and achieve a more wide-awake look without invasive surgery will benefit from the treatment. As the treatment avoids potentially limiting your expressions (as with Botox), it is also a popular option for individuals who look in the mirror and notice those first signs of ageing but want a natural-looking finish.

Individuals looking to improve the appearance of dark circles as well as fine lines are likely to be most pleased with the results. Plus, if puffiness is your main concern, the injections’ smoothing effect can make eye bags less noticeable, with an overall brightening effect from brow bone to under-eye.

The overall experience isn’t super invasive, but as it involves needles, it won’t be suitable for those who are scared of them, for those who bruise excessively or anyone on blood thinning medication.

What is the aftercare advice?

As with most injectable treatments, there is a potential for bruising, which can appear both immediately and over the next few days. Luckily, Dr Zamani is inch-perfect with her placement, meaning the majority of any discolouration is tucked between your brow bone and eyelid. That means its not immediately obvious and is also small enough to be lightly covered with concealer should you wish.
It’s important to be gentle around the eye area post-treatment, especially over the 24-48 hours immediately afterwards. That can involve taking an antihistamine to avoid swelling; trying to sleep on your back to avoid pressure on your eyes; and avoiding activities, such as intensive exercise that may trigger more redness and tenderness.

How long does it take to see results?

While some patients may see a slight boost in radiance after their appointments, for most, results aren’t extremely noticeable straight away, but you’ll get excited once they emerge. Within three weeks, you can expect an improvement in skin texture and tone that will give you a more wide-awake, refreshed look. The real tell here is that you’ll notice you need to wear a little less concealer, and your favourite formula is less likely to fall into fine lines.

Then, after three months, you can start to see the plumping and smoothing effect from the injections via the encouragement of collagen production (collagen is a structural protein that helps plump and support the skin and which depletes as we age). This, teamed with the overall radiance added to the whole eye area, gives your eyes a slightly lifted appearance that subtly but convincingly leads to brighter, less tired-looking eyes.

Why is it Tweak of the Week worthy?

The eye area can be one of the trickiest areas of the face to treat – after all, the skin here is delicate and medically it’s a sensitive area too. But, with Eye Bright by Dr Maryam Zamani, you’re not only in safe hands but really effective ones, too. Her approach means you achieve the brightening and smoothing effect you want, exactly where you need it. What’s more, you’ll still have complete movement and expression, teamed with the realisation that even on nights when you haven’t had quite enough sleep, your eyes don’t advertise it quite so strongly. You can achieve a really natural result that will have people saying “you look really well”, not “what have you had done.”
