City Shopping Guides

City Shopping Guides: Sydney

Sydney may be known for its culinary scene, but scattered across its inner suburbs are a plethora of stylish shops.

From vintage boutiques in the upscale, harbourside neighbourhood of Double Bay to striking store designs in Bondi Bay, Morgan Munday – Australian stylist and brand manager of swimwear label Triangl – tells us where to find special places to shop in the city.

Best area or street for shopping?

I love Paddington. It’s got a lot of Australian and international stores across fashion, homewares and beauty – plus plenty of amazing food options to keep you going.

Where can we find the best vintage shops?

The best vintage designer shops are found in Double Bay. My favourites are APT.57, Revivre and Harlequin Market. Then for denim and a good old rummage head to King Street, Newtown. For cool antique furniture and homewares, I love Mitchell Road Emporium and Lunatiques.

One place only locals know about…

Iggys Bread Down Under for croissants on a Sunday.

Your favourite local brands or boutiques?

IN BED store, Mecca, Bassike, Sir The Label, For Artists Only, Dinosaur Design, Incu and Aesop.

The best place to treat yourself is…

A beautiful massage at The Calmm, or a six-hand massage at Venustus.

Best overall shopping experience?

Mecca for all your beauty needs. I always find the staff so friendly, helpful and supportive in trying a new makeup look.

Best store design?

Sir The Label in Bondi Beach and Lucy Folk in Paddington. Both stores are designed by the very clever Tamsin Johnson.

Best pit stop for lunch or coffee?

If I’m in Paddington I’ll always find an excuse to sit at the bar at 10 William for lunch or an early dinner. I highly recommend ordering the pretzel with whipped bottarga, pasta, tiramisu and a glass of wine of course. For a coffee hit, I pop into Barbetta or Alimentari for a good and strong Italian version.
