This Week CF Loves: 01.05.23

We are celebrating the best of British this month from one of Britain’s finest establishments to digital interpretations of the upcoming Coronation.

Let’s not forget looming tennis season and a summer of extraordinary theatre. This is what we are loving this week.

EAT THIS The Goring’s Coronation Tasting Menu

The closest luxury hotel to Buckingham Palace, The Goring has been a firm favourite of the Royal family for many years and is the only property with a Royal Warrant for hospitality services. Its association with King Charles goes as far back to 1948 when the hotel’s pastry chefs supplied a cake for his christening, and now head chef Graham Squire has crafted an exquisite Coronation Tasting Menu in the Michelin-starred Dining Room (with dishes also available à la carte). In a nod to the Monarch’s passion for the environment, Squire has focused on seasonal, foraged ingredients and has also taken inspiration from Welsh specialities. Highlights include the Coddled Clarence Court egg with fine herb garden salad and truffle vinaigrette and the Buttered morel and wild mushroom ‘vol au vent’ with wild garlic hollandaise and smoked pancetta.

BOOK THIS Frameless

To honour the historic Coronation of King Charles, Frameless will be projecting the 1953 Coronation of Queen Elizabeth in its fifth gallery until 8th May. An experience included with all tickets, footage of Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation will take guests on a journey back in time as the UK reflects on royal history and prepares for a new era, alongside interactive digital interpretations of masterpieces by 28 iconic artists including Canaletto, Cézanne, Dalí, Kandinsky, Klimt, Monet, Rembrandt and Van Gogh. A culturally rich, immersive, multi-dimensional, entertainment experience. Celebrate with champagne or tea at the Café Bar, with the Frameless Afternoon Tea; an art-inspired platter for two with an added theatrical element.

BUY THIS Court to Club, Varley

Cult athleisure brand Varley launches its tennis collection, as we start to think of tennis season. A destination where timeless style meets considered design, the Club collection is an elevated take on court-to-club dressing. The collection features pieces to suit the multifaceted lives of women, made to serve versatility on and off the court. The collection includes knitted layers, dresses and skorts in classic silhouettes which can be mixed and matched to create a wardrobe of easy-to-wear looks that will take you from one activity to the next in style.

SEE THIS Witness For The Prosecution

Back with a brand-new cast, Agatha Christie’s gripping murder mystery play Witness For The Prosecution is the perfect theatrical treat for wannabe detectives. Set inside the London County Hall on the Southbank, whose former council chamber has been transformed into a magnificent courtroom, the production follows an array of quintessentially British characters including Leonard Vole, a man who stands accused of murdering a wealthy older woman named Emily French. Follow the twists and turns as suspects are interviewed and evidence is revealed before a dramatic finale that will have you glued to your seat. Guilty or innocent – you decide!

GO HERE Mayfair's Coronation Garden Party, Grosvenor Square

How best to celebrate a quintessentially British historic event than with a quintessentially British garden party. Grab a deckchair, sip on some sparkling wine and watch the Coronation on a big screen in Grosvenor Square at Mayfair’s Coronation Garden Party. With plenty of food and drink options, including ice cream from the Connaught Patisserie, coronation burgers from The Barley Mow, and light bites from zero-waste restaurant Apricity, the square itself will be transformed into an enchanting garden, featuring flowers and greenery inspired by HRH King Charles’ Highgrove estate, including an entrance archway of lavender and an interactive floral throne installation by Moyses Stevens. Tablescapers Lay London will be curating picnic benches seating 180 people, using botanical patterns and traditional garden flowers like roses and geraniums, and there’ll be cinema-sized screens showing the event itself. And there will be plenty of family-friendly activities on offer, including face painting, jewellery making, arts & crafts, dressing-up box, giant garden games and more. And the whole of Mayfair will be celebrating; you can toast to the Coronation with a tipple at the likes of Maison Rabih Kayrouz, MATCHESFASHION, Pretty Ballerinas, The Beaumont Hotel, Hanro, and Pragnell.
