The Beauty Edit

What CF's Beauty Editor Is Shopping This June

With a host of new beauty launches passing across her desk each month, Citizen Femme’s beauty editor Becki Murray has an art for finding the makeup, skincare and fragrance products that are actually worth adding to your routine.

This month, her pick of June’s best beauty launches will help to kickstart your summer beautification From Cowshed’s anniversary-celebrating hamper to Chantecaille’s covetable highlighter – these are this month’s beauty launches that our beauty editor recommends.

THE HAIR TECH

I recall being so excited when the original Zuvi hairdryer launched as the hair industry-changing innovation behind it is so impressive. Instead of using damaging high temperatures like traditional hairdryers, the Halo uses patented light technology to dry the surface of your hair, while keeping moisture within the hair shaft. If you love styling your hair, but hate the damage it causes, this statement limited edition version is for you.

THE LIP GLOW

This is the lip product I don't intend to ever have far from hand this summer. From its nourishing, lightweight texture to the softly diffused colour, it's my shortcut to a plump and moisturised pout. My favourite shade is the subtle yet defining Blasé.

THE LUXURY HAMPER

Cowshed is celebrating its 25th anniversary in style with this hamper that brings a Babington House spa day straight to your door. With award-winning little luxuries to pamper yourself head-to-toe, the fact that it includes one of my all-time favourite fluffy Soho House robes seals the deal. I'm obsessed.

THE POWDER

I can't remember the last time I was so impressed by a tinted face powder, but this Jones Road Beauty one is now firmly embedded in my makeup bag. Benefitting from all the expertise of the iconic makeup artist Bobbi Brown, it is finely milled and colour corrects as it warms your complexion for a more natural, flattering finish. It's available in eight shades including blush.

THE DECONGESTING CLEANSE

Proof that foaming cleansers have come a long way from their original skin-drying counterparts, Pai's first entry into foaming face washes is a deeply decongesting formula that won't irritate sensitive complexions. It's what I reached for after a particularly annoying period of breakouts. The gentle combination of exfoliating polyhydroxy acid (PHA) with skin-nourishing ingredients specifically designed to minimise irritation really helped to rebalance my skin.

THE GLOW GETTER

I'm not ashamed to say I gasped with delight when I saw Chantecaille's limited edition highlighter – not just in the beautiful packaging, but on my skin too. Due to the gel-powder hybrid texture, the shimmering lightweight pigments reflect the sunlight just right without sinking into my pores, for a soft and smooth finish.

THE SUMMER SALT SPRAY

Nothing says the start of summer quite like the return of beachy, wind-swept curls and to get my poker-straight hair to comply. My recent find of Sam McKnight's salt spray means you don't have to settle for crunchy, stiff strands either – the formula nourishes as it creates texture, which is a win-win.

THE FRAGRANCE

Stop your search for a sophisticated summer fragrance – Dior has done it again. The combination of fruity fig and fresh rose will take you from all summertime activities – from relaxing poolside to exploring your favourite European city with ease. Its sunny warmth on your skin also lasts and lasts.

THE GENTLE CLEANSE

Due to frequent travelling, my skin has become really dry of late, so I've been on the hunt for a gentle yet still effective cleanser with which to take off my makeup. I've found it with this vegan facial milk, which also gets impressive sustainability points. The formula utilises oat milk upcycled from the food and drink industry, to help restore your skin's moisture barrier. The evidence is clear with my skin now touchably softer.

THE REFILLABLE CANDLE

Carrière Frères is the beauty insider's chicest recommendation for scenting your home, with scents designed to suit your mood, from waking you up, to helping you get cosy. Now the brand also provides a refill option that makes sustainability still feel luxurious. Your only struggle is choosing how many candles is 'too many' for your home.

THE HAIR HERO

Summer 2023 is the time for the in-salon haircare expert to come centre stage. Take FUL, a new brand powered by the expertise of over 60 hairdressers from Live True London. The Intense Moisture Mask has been a top-secret tool in salon for some time now, but its now finally available for use at home. Your dry, damaged tresses will thank them dearly.

THE SUMMER TINT

In the summer months, I like to change up my makeup coverage to something more lightweight so it doesn't just slide off my face. I've found exactly that with Sculpted by Aimee's tinted serum. Available in 20 shades, its made up of 90% skincare ingredients, including Centella Asiatica, Hyaluronic Acid, Peptides and Vitamin E, so its nourishing and blemish-blurring in one.

THE PROTECTIVE CREAM

I really love the combination of SPF30 with Vitamin C in this protective moisturiser, which can act as your one-and-done protective and nourishing step in your summer skincare routine. I've found it gives my skin a refreshed glow, perfect for sunny days, as long as you apply it liberally.
