This Week CF Loves: 30.10.23

The expression winter warmers rings ever-so-true this week as temperatures have dropped and our wardrobes have turned around to accommodate coats and boots.

From other-worldly exhibitions and the new weekend binge-watch to warm villa getaways – our last October Citizen Femme hotlist has warmth written all over it… literally.

STAY HERE Goop x The Colony, Palm Beach

Heading to sunnier climes this winter? Look to Florida institution, The Colony Hotel, a charming and colourful “Pink Paradise” that has long been a favourite of the Palm Beach glitterati and international social figures. In anticipation of the hotel’s 75th anniversary this year, the owners embarked on a multi-year restoration culminating with the redesign of the hotel’s guest rooms and suites. As part of this, it has undertaken a series of collaborations, which includes a villa designed by Aerin Lauder, and a recent partnership with a bookable villa by goop, designed by Ronen Lev, which coincides with the brand’s 15th anniversary. The 2,524 square foot two bedroom and two bathroom ‘goop Villa’ mirrors the modern, feminine Parisian aesthetic that goop is renowned for, blended with the vibrant spirit of Palm Beach. Guests will find goop x Fromental botanical wallpaper, coffee table accessories from Cartier, and bathrooms stocked with goop skincare and body products. Guests of The Villa Collection (seven in total) will enjoy full hotel amenities plus ultra-personalised services including butler service, beach buggy program, around-town transportation, and access to the exclusive villa pool.

CATCH THIS Gucci Cosmos

The Gucci Cosmos exhibition is something else entirely. Celebrating the storied Italian brand’s 102-year history, enter a universe of never-before-seen archival designs and surreal conceptual art at the Strand’s 180 Studios. Instead of a chronological study of the house’s most memorable designs, its creators – artist Es Devlin and fashion theorist Maria Luisa Frisa – offer a bold approach delving into the eye-popping Gucci universe. A labyrinthine series of revolving doors leads the viewer through the exhibition’s various rooms and worlds, which often feature immersive elements. The exhibition begins with a simulacrum of what is arguably the birthplace of Gucci: the red-lacquered elevator of the Savoy Hotel, where founder Guccio Gucci worked as bell boy as a young man at the end of the 19th century. There, he witnessed the growing need for luggage among the upper classes. Bringing this experience back to Florence, he founded Gucci as a luggage maker in 1921. Through immersive elements, tunnels and projections, you finally reach the ‘Carousel’ journeying through the house’s various creative directors – Ford to Alessandro Michele, Frida Giannini to current creative director Sabato de Sarno.

WATCH THIS The Buccaneers, AppleTV+

If you’re looking for your next Bridgerton fix, watch AppleTV+’s answer, based on the unfinished novel by Edith Wharton. The series follows five American heiresses who travel to England in the 1870s in search of a perfect match. Directed by BAFTA winner Susanna White, it sees a culture clash between Brits and Americans, as these fun-seeking American girls arrive in London searching for husbands. Following suit of Bridgerton’s inclusive casting and anachronistic tunes, this drama is a frenzied yet delightful showcase of how women have always sought to save themselves and each other while lacking societal powers or autonomy. Moving swiftly through weeks and months in just eight drama-length episodes, this may well be a one-weekend type of binge.

DRINK HERE The Hideaway at Sloane Place

There remains an allure with the speakeasy, a hidden den inviting the sophisticated, providing well-crafted cocktails and a private space for intimate tête-à-têtes. Sloane Place opens The Hideaway, its modern speakeasy, immaculately designed in an Art Deco style. Reminiscent of a time that celebrates the iconic smoky New York jazz bar, complete with generous and covert booths for gossiping, deep velvet armchairs, geometric chandeliers, sultry lighting, find yourself a corner table and order a cocktail from the impressive list…perfect for whiling away winter evenings.
