This Week CF Loves: 09.09.24

Up(grade) your home, your travel essentials and your game.

Oh yes, this new sport is re-shaping evening plans. Sporting nights followed by rooftop cocktails should absolutely be a new weeknight activity. And as far as the weekend goes, we’re getting stuck into a bit of DIY… but luxe. This is what we’re loving in this week’s Citizen Femme hotlist.

PLAY HERE Rocket Padel, Battersea Power Station

Have you succumbed to the fastest growing sport in the world? Padel is all the rage, and along with the demand, the number of courts popping up to satisfy this is growing. Now you can Padel in the shadow of London’s famous Battersea Power Station with the newest opening up this week by Rocket Padel. EAT HERE Marceline, Canary Wharf

In stark contrast with the towering concrete jungle of Canary Wharf, where high-rise buildings glitter brightly with office lights, lies Marceline, London’s newly opened convivial French brasserie. Hop across a bridge to Canary Wharf’s new floating Wood Wharf, where Marceline’s open door is waiting. A tall watercolour-like painting nods to the impressionist grandeur of a Parisian bistro, alongside the classic oak bistro chairs and warm, orb lighting. Although Marceline boasts a large space inside, the attention to detail is minute. French linens make the table napkins while baskets of branded matchboxes are offered by the cloakroom. Start at Bar Marceline with their fruity take on the classic French Martini or try the signature ‘Two Sip’ Martini for a quick aperitif. Led by Robert Aikens who trained under the Roux Brothers in Paris before moving across the Atlantic to work in New York’s Grand Cafés, the menu heroes all the French brasserie classics. Expect everything from escargots de Bourgogne, onglet doused in a peppercorn sauce, and wild mushroom vol-au-vent to rose water Madeleines for dessert made fresh when you order (so allow 15 minutes). As you can expect from a classically-French restaurant, the wine list is extensive. Call over Jeffry Koren, the friendly sommelier from Norway’s three-starred Maaemo, who will pair your courses with the appropriate bottle, all the while talking through your preferences and sharing anecdotes from his trips to the vineyards on the menu. Each wine has been carefully selected from far-flung regions across Europe,  often with a twist (for example, Italian-made wine from Slovenia) with a focus on smaller, family-run wineries.
