Things To Do With Children This September: CE Team Recommends

September has rolled around again and with it comes the new school term. But just because kids are back in the classroom doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of fun to be had. Here the Citizen Enfants team and some of our mum friends share the exciting things they are planning with their children and loving for themselves this autumn.

From chic new kids’ wear collections and fun, cultural days out across the UK, to mum (and mum-to-be) must-haves and the new family hotel in Mallorca, here is plenty of inspiration for September and beyond.

VISIT Blenheim Palace has launched a new Palace and Play trail with access to an Adventure Play for kids. It’s a great place for kids to run around and they have a special Bee Trail on until the end of September. BOOK The Polka Theatre has a great weekend of activity at the end of September with the Big Dreams Festival, including sensory play, performance installations, story telling and more. ARRANGE Playdates at Uniqlo Tate Play: Shadow and Light Make Studio, its great for under-fives to create magical worlds using light, shadows, projectors, glowing objects, lasers and mirrored surfaces. Super fun sensory times! USE The Oura Ring for my personal wellbeing. Although I don’t think I need a wearable to tell me about terrible sleeping, I think it’s a great reminder to check in with myself for a more holistic map of my own wellbeing; when I’m not getting enough exercise, when I’m stressed, when I can push harder and when I need to take a break. A wellness buddy if you will. LISTEN Both my kids are really enjoying listening to stories on car journeys, StoryNory is a particular favourite right now and Little Stories for Tiny People. DO I’m also signed up to The Unlock Challenge with Bryony Deery, squeezing it in where possible. My daughter catches me exercising, so we switch to Mama and Toddler Yoga together, she provides the bodyweight!

STAY It might be Autumn, but if you are already looking for your next hit of sunshine then check out the dreamy Four Seasons Mallorca in stunning Formentor. The property has just reopened having been completely refurbished. I stayed at the hotel in its previous incarnation so I can 100% vouch that the location is perfect for families. Now it’s a Four Seasons I’m definitely planning a return visit. VISIT Autumn is such a great time of year for days out in London with kids. I’m already looking ahead to the upcoming half term and planning some fun trips to the British Museum (always so interesting no matter how many times we visit) and the brand new Batman Unmasked exhibition. EAT Now that the kiddos are all back at school I’m loving catching up with my girlfriends for brunches after being away all summer. It’s The Coach House at Beaverbrook with my Surrey friends, Megan’s in Wimbledon Village with my SW London gang and Caravan in Covent Garden for more central get togethers. PLAY For some sporty fun that doesn’t require good weather check out Sixes Social Cricket. It’s a totally indoor cricket experience and the perfect place to book for a birthday party too. BUY All mums need roomy handbags to carry everything from snacks to LEGO and for me it’s DeMellier’s Tokyo bag in brown suede this autumn. SHOP The new Petit Sezane kids’ collection is just perfect and exactly what you’d expect from the chic French label’s first foray into children’s wear. READ My youngest son absolutely loves Buddy Oliver’s new book Let’s Cook. Just like his dad Jamie, Buddy’s book is packed with fantastic recipes but these are all ideal for little chefs.

BUY I am 20 weeks pregnant with twins, and have finally succumbed to the pregnancy pillow. BBHUGME’s adjustable pillow is suitable for nursing post-pregnancy too and I love the sleek design and olive green colour, it doesn’t look out of place in my bedroom! BOOK The Peppa Pig Afternoon Tea London Sightseeing Bus Tour, my five year old step daughter loved this for her birthday and it’s definitely enchanting for both kids and adults alike. PAMPER at Grey Wolfe, a private members wellness club in South West London. The pregnancy massage followed by the Rebalance Impulse treatment was exactly what I needed for my back pain and pregnancy anxiety. INVEST I have just done a big shop for my twin boys, and top of my list was the Bugaboo Donkey 5 Twin pram, the Baby Bjorn Bliss Bouncer and the SnuzBaskit, times two of course!  SUBSCRIBE to Lovevery’s Play Kit subscription. Based on your child’s age, stage-based play essentials for your little ones developing brain are sent out every 2-3 months, which takes the stress out of buying new entertainment and learning toys regularly.

VISIT Clara’s Corner, the chicest softplay based just outside London in West Wycombe. Our favourite way to spend a day with softplay, a great playground and (most importantly) great food and drink to keep the adults sustained. RELAX with Neal’s Yard Women’s Balance range. I was recently given the bath foam and body cream by a friend and cannot get enough! The scent is heavenly and it genuinely helps me wind down. SHOP at Organic Zoo. My new absolutely favourite place to browse for the girls. The matching sets are particularly cool and the quality doesn’t disappoint. BUY the bbhugme nursing pillow. I have always heard rave reviews about the pregnancy pillow but personally I don’t think the nursing pillow is getting the hype it deserves! A slightly more manageable size, I’m currently using this for everything from feeding to sleeping to tummy time for my daughter! WEAR Sloppy Joe’s sweatshirts. As a seasonally affected person I don’t particularly look forward to the colder months but I am obsessed with these sweatshirts for that perfect off duty ‘cool mom’ vibe. If it was good enough for Princess Diana…

WEAR La Coquette’s new AW24 collection is divine. My personal favourite is this tartan dress and Fair Isle knit. Children’s fashion does not get better. GO To the Barbie exhibition at the Design Museum – I cannot wait to take my girls there later this month. EAT Might be a little bit fancy, but Olimpia cannot get enough of the bread at Colbert and we love to have an early evening omelette there. A lovely place to take kids. STAY We will be booking to go to The Newt in Somerset again after our fabulous stay last year. So family friendly and such a dreamy location. HALF TERM PLANNING Art Barn is wonderful and we keep going back – it is now requested by the kids and has become such a favourite. Creative and educational but also super fun. DONATE Little Village provide a wonderful service to families and you can book collections from your house. Via their network of baby banks, they pass on loved goods from one family to another – clothes, toys and equipment – so that many more babies and young children have the essential things they need to thrive. I think they work they do is amazing.
