Apples & Pears has made its much-anticipated debut at St James’s Market, within Sael—the latest brasserie from restaurateurs Jason and Irha Atherton. ‘Apples & Pears’ is an exciting space where art and attitude converge, capturing the essence of Cool Britannia. The bar is an edgy, understated oasis with each drink carefully crafted, pairing two seasonal ingredients in unexpected, yet harmonious combinations. Designed by Bar Manager Istvan Toth, whose impressive background includes The Arts Club in London, the Michelin-starred Babel in Budapest, and Coya in Mykonos. The opening cocktail menu is set to delight your senses with creations like the ‘Dill & Caper’—a refreshing mix of infused Belvedere Vodka, Cucumber, Capers, and Franklin & Sons Elderflower Tonic. For a more adventurous palate, the ‘Fig & Mushroom’ combines Evan Williams Bourbon, Fig Leaf, Martini Riserva Rubino Vermouth, Shiitake Mushroom, and a Cacao & Jalapeño Maple. The ‘Strawberry & Scots Pine,’ promises a vibrant blend of strawberry-infused Bombay Sapphire Gin, Scots Pine, Seasonal Berries, Burn Faith Triple Sec, and Lemon. The ambience of ‘Apples & Pears’ is further elevated by its décor, showcasing works from the Young British Artists (YBA) movement. As the night progresses, the bar transforms with a DJ booth that sets the stage for exclusive after-parties, making it the ultimate late-night destination. Complementing the ever-evolving cocktail list, the food offerings at ‘Apples & Pears’ feature delectable snacks from Sael, perfectly paired to enhance your experience.
One of the perks of the cold weather (outside of sartorial elegance) is hot chocolates. Badiani, the favourite Florentine gelato experts (with shops across London, Brighton and Windsor), launch their Italian Hot Chocolates this week, ready for the winter season. No one does hot chocolate quite like the Italians, known for their rich, extra-thick texture, these luxurious drinks are crafted with Pernigotti cocoa from Alessandria, Piedmont, crafted in a custom-built machine that ensures a decadent experience with every sip. The chocolate is made by the gelato maestro himself, Paolo Pomposi, who is also the mastermind behind the iconic pistachio sauce. On the menu? A Classic Hot Chocolate, rich and creamy, topped with whipped cream and chocolate shavings; Pistachio Hot Chocolate, a classic enhanced with Paolo Pomposi’s handcrafted Pistachio Sauce on the interior of the cup; Chocolate Affogato, a harmonious blend of the Paolo Pomposi Hot Chocolate with a scoop of signature Buontalenti gelato, delivering a warm, creamy treat; and Hot Pistachio, made with Paolo Pomposi’s Pistachio Sauce, perfect for pistachio fans seeking something different.
Whether its inherited or not, signet rings have made a resurgence. Traditionally worn my gentlemen, engraved with a family crest, and used to imprint their insignia into wax on an official document, essentially acting as their signature (hence the name), tables have turned. Now they have become a must-have accessory for men and women, and you can go OTT or keep it simple and pared back, and there’s plenty of fun to be had. Philippa Herbert creates classical pieces that are weighted in British tradition alongside modern renditions and bespoke creations to be loved and kept for future generations. Opt for a gemstone engraved signet, displaying two crests, seal engraved by hand onto Lapis and Sardonyx or another gemstone of choice. Or a fully customisable fingerprint ring, a beautiful accessory for yourself or to gift test.
