CF's October 2024 Sustainable Edit

Welcome to Citizen Femme’s October 2024 Sustainable Edit, showcasing the sustainable collectives on our radar this month.

Including jewellery made from recycled metals, sustainably sourced luxury tailoring and the newest addition to The Pig hotels, these are the names making a positive change this October.

JEWELLERY

Bar Jewellery

Born from the belief that sustainability and desirability should coexist in perfect harmony, founder Sophie McKay – a former fashion designer and luxury brand consultant – launched BAR. Expect a modern and minimal aesthetic with sculptural jewellery that transcends fast fashion trends, instead drawing inspiration from the gentle curves and smooth flowing shapes found in nature. Each piece is handmade by skilled artisans using ethical and sustainable practices, and crafted from recycled silver and brass to help reduce waste and the impact on the environment. It’s little wonder Meghan Markle and Emma Watson already count themselves as fans.

BEAUTY

Ere Perez

Born in Bondi Beach, Sydney – Ere Perez is an eco-brand that bottles its founder’s unique background (including a childhood in Mexico, adult life in Australia, and certifications in naturopathy and acupuncture) for the betterment of the planet – and our beauty routines. Based on the power of botanicals – especially Australian native – these makeup and skincare products are supercharged with plant-based goodness and a fuss-free, multitasking focus. They also have ethical beauty at their heart, focusing on ingredient traceability, eco-friendly packaging such as refills, and inclusivity. If you have to choose just one product, make it the multi-award-winning Coco Crayon – a really pigmented and nourishing lip pencil that’s perfect for travelling. Becki Murray

STAY

The Pig in the Cotswolds

Its doors have only been open for a couple of weeks, but the latest addition to The Pig hotel group is already proving a strong contender for best in show. Tucked away in picture-perfect Barnsley, just a few miles from Cirencester and a hop and a skip from the infamously pretty town of Bibury, the location is second to none for exploring the quintessentially English villages of the Cotswolds. A honey-hued 17th-century, Grade II building, this unspoilt manor house has been sympathetically restored, conserving historic character and original features throughout. Interiors make use of reclaimed, vintage, upcycled and reupholstered furniture where possible, while the bedrooms overlook the original listed gardens designed by Rosemary Verey. The large kitchen-garden boasts fruit cages, foraging hedgerows and delicious homegrown produce that make up The Pig’s seasonal dishes. What can’t be grown on-site is sourced within a 25-mile radius. In the hotel’s gardens you’ll find the Fieldhouse spa; treatments here have been designed using products from Tribe517 – a family-run, natural skincare brand based in the Welsh countryside. Like The Pig, Tribe517 are passionate about the provenance of their ingredients – using ethically sourced botanical ingredients that help care for the planet, as well as mind and body.

FASHION

Liberowe

Inspired by both Indian menswear and French cinema from the seventies, London-based Liberowe perfectly strikes the balance between femininity and masculinity, with androgynous tailoring at the heart of their collections. It was on one of founder Talia Loubaton’s many trips to India that she really fell in love with sherwanis – a traditional men’s coat that went on to inspire the brand’s now signature ‘Raja’ jacket. Embracing craftsmanship and timeless tailoring, each piece is made from the highest quality fabrics that are sourced responsibly, while prioritising deadstock materials. A made-to-order and bespoke service keeps production runs small, while an exclusive capsule – alongside other hero buys – can be found online at NET-A-PORTER.

EAT

The Cinnamon Collection

With six contemporary Indian restaurants in its portfolio – including Cinnamon Kitchen inside Battersea Power Station and The Cinnamon Club set in the historic Grade II listed former Westminster library – Vivek Singh’s restaurant group has been accredited with the highest possible three-star rating by The Sustainable Restaurant Association. This reaffirms Cinnamon Collection’s ongoing commitment to sustainability thanks to their keen focus on high-quality sustainable ingredients and support of ethical suppliers, such as Lake District Farmers and Marrfish. Tandoori classics and delicately spiced fish are firm favourites, while seasonal ingredients from across the British Isles are paired with carefully sourced Indian spices for an unforgettable take on modern-Indian cuisine.
