Seven Of The Best Vineyard Spas With Breathtaking Views

Interested in a spa with a view? Bit of a wine connoisseur (or lover) too? Locations hardly come more idyllic than those at a vineyard spa.

Vineyard spas don’t only offer peaceful views across the fields as you relax in the pool or on the massage table, the treatments are also often inspired by ‘vinotherapy’ – the results-driven use of grape extracts to revitalise your skin.

These are seven of our favourite (and the best spas) with vineyard views…

Delaire Graff Lodges And Spa, South Africa

Positioned atop the Helshoogte Pass and dubbed the jewel of the Cape Vinelands, every aspect of Delaire Graff Lodges and Spa is inspired by the natural beauty of South Africa’s surrounding landscape. The hotel is renowned for its panoramic views in a region famous for its rolling vineyards and majestic mountains.  Plus, its vineyard’s is ranked as one of the most prestigious wineries in the world. The tranquil spa is, quite rightly, held in just as high regard. Guests are provided with a serene backdrop of lush greenery, vines, and peaks, including breathtaking views of Table Mountain from the 22 metre infinity pool. The artwork-filled space is adorned with works from some of South Africa’s most celebrated contemporary artists (all from owner Laurence Graff’s personal collection), and the light-filled treatment rooms, decorated in ivory tones with delicate African details, bring the serenity of nature indoors. As for the treatment menu, the highly personalised ‘wellbeing rituals’ are designed specifically for you. It’s a results driven approach as well though, using products from globally renowned brands, including Augustinus Bader and Dr Barbara Sturm.

Six Senses Douro Valley, Portugal

Overlooking the vine-covered landscape of the UNESCO-listed Douro Valley – one of the world’s oldest wine-producing regions – this Six Senses spa sits high on a hill in a beautifully restored 19th-century manor. The spa’s design embraces every inch of its natural surroundings with large windows framing views of the valley as you take a dip in the outdoor or indoor pools; the latter even comes with underwater sound therapy and massage jets. There’s a high-tech infrared sauna, herbal sauna and steam room to enjoy too. Plus, smart tech-powered mindfulness, wellness, and yoga programmes benefitting from the vineyard’s serenity to help you sleep better and destress. But, it is the treatments you really want to make time for. The signature vinotherapy-inspired body exfoliation ritual uses grapeseed pearls and port from the Douro region to scrub your body head-to-toe, before warming stones and a mini facial help you melt further into relaxation. Another highlight: The Dreamcatcher. This full body massage uses vanilla and oud CBD oil to relieve stubborn muscle tension, with a warming effect on your body that’s like a comforting hug.

Entre Cielos Wine & Wellness Hotel, Argentina

With one of our favourite vineyard hotel tag lines: ‘for sipping, spa, and solitude’, this wine and wellness hotel is located in one of the largest wine regions in Latin America – and, most excitingly, is home to the first Hamam in South America. Surrounded by nearly 1200 vineyards of Malbec vines and with the snowcapped Andes of central west Argentina as a backdrop, the authentic Turkish Hamam is a tranquil sanctuary for cleansing, steaming and relaxation rituals that will leave your whole body lighter, brighter and revitalised. We recommend the ultra-indulgent Cleopatra experience, which includes an hour-long purification circuit, and both a foam and oil-based massage. The broader spa experience is deeply intertwined with the region’s wine culture too. Guests can indulge in grape-infused body scrubs, facials, and massages that harness the anti-ageing and antioxidant properties of grape seed. Or, soak in wine baths and the outdoor hot tubs overlooking the vines, which allow you to experience the region’s best export with or without a glass or Malbec in hand.

Source de Caudalie, Bordeaux

Considering Les Sources de Caudalie is the home of Caudalie skincare, the spa at Château Smith Haut Lafitte is second to none in terms of skincare, especially for wine lovers. Nestled in the heart of the Bordeaux vineyards, the space is renowned for its vinotherapy treatments, which harness the antioxidant properties of grapes and vine extracts. From barrel baths and grape-based scrubs to facials using vine-derived essential oils, your skin will be soothed and rejuvenated in no time. Our top pick is the Vines Ritual at Les Sources, which is the perfect introduction to the benefits of vinotherapy (and an incredibly indulgent half day spa experience). Using locally sourced grape extracts, you are treated to a soothing ‘wine’ bath, crushed grape scrub, signature massage and skin-boosting facial, meaning you’ll feel pampered truly from head-to-toe. Emerge – on a cloud – in your fluffy white robe and head straight to the heated glasshouse swimming pool or natural hot water spring bath for a relaxing dip. Both have stunning views across the vineyards and are best enjoyed with a glass of local wine not far away.

Meadowood Napa Valley, USA

An intimate retreat with true personalisation at its heart, the spa at Meadowood Napa Valley is tucked away among the rolling hills and world-renowned vineyards of California’s famous wine country. With relaxation gardens, mineral soaking pools, steam rooms and private suites (including the highly recommended Tree House Retreat complete with fireplace and copper tub) tranquility comes easy, even before your therapist starts your wellness consultation. Through this process, your individual needs are explored and used to craft a bespoke treatment that addresses your body, mind, and spirit, whether through massages, facials, or other restorative therapies. The spa also offers curated wellness programmes that can include nature hikes, wine-inspired wellness activities, and mindfulness practices that deepen your connection to yourself and the calming landscape.

Hotel Marqués de Riscal, Elciego, Spain

Located in the medieval town of Elciego, on the site of an expansive vineyard that dates all the way back to 1858, the five-star Hotel Marqués de Riscal is designed to standout – not blend in. The iconic titanium structure was envisioned by the renowned architect Frank Gehry and as you spot it rising above the Rioja vines, it immediately sets the tone for the cutting-edge hotel and spa experience you have in store. Featuring the latest treatments in vinotherapy, Rioja’s wine heritage is celebrated throughout the spa treatment menu, with highly-trained specialists offering wet and dry treatments that use grape extracts to cleanse, soothe and invigorate your skin. Struggling to choose? Signature experiences like the Crushed Cabernet Scrub provide a true taste of the Rioja vineyards. Caudalie’s award-winning grape-infused products are also on hand for facials, body scrubs and wraps. Outside the treatment room, there’s plenty of floor-to-ceiling windows to ensure panoramic views of the surrounding vineyards, as well as a heated indoor swimming pool with massaging water jets; a Hamam, and Finnish sauna. An outdoor Jacuzzi and wine barrel bath also help you truly drink in the serene landscape that surrounds you.

Chateau du Palanquey, Saint-Emilion

This small chateau-based hotel and spa feels like a home-away-from-home, which only makes relaxation come sooner, even to the most stressed-out of minds. With only a few rooms on site, there’s a real feeling of privacy, whether you are enjoying the indoor and outdoor swimming pools that both overlook the vineyard, or taking a dip in the Jacuzzi (one of the suites even has a private one too). The spa itself is fairly compact but packed with options, with results-driven treatments from Institut Esthederm, including facials to lift, sculpt and hydrate, and massages inspired by techniques from around the world. There’s even Traditional Chinese Therapy on offer, in the form of muscle-relieving cupping to maximise your relaxation. Whatever you choose, the incredibly peaceful environment will help unfurl your shoulders and slow your heart rate – supercharging your enjoyment of a glass of wine afterwards while overlooking the green fields. An additional benefit is that the owners are also on hand to cook you a traditional French dinner. If you are looking for a quaint and authentic vineyard experience, try this one.
