'Wine Inspired' Nails Are The Autumn/Winter Trend Everyone Is Wearing

There’s only one shade on beauty insiders’ nails right now – and it already has us dreaming about a warm glass of mulled wine.

Forget classic red or pretty nude shades this autumn/winter, ‘wine nails’ – aka dark red, red-brown and burgundy hues – are the nail trend of the moment.

This is the ultimate nail inspiration for the season, including what to ask for at your next appointment and how to wear the wintry tone that’s on everyone’s finger tips…

Behind the trend

The weather’s become colder but the sparkle of the festive lights aren’t up just yet, so its no surprise that our manicures have got a little ‘moody’ recently. In good news, deep hues are universally flattering, and are as warming for all skin tones as a nice cashmere jumper – if you know what to look for. In fact, the trend offers the sexiness of a statement red but with an added cosiness that’s perfect for this time of year.

For colour inspiration, first look to your wine rack, with shades ranging from your more brown-toned burgundy to deep and rich merlot and cabernets. (Aka, leave your classic Big Apple Reds firmly in the drawer). Consider it your opportunity to indulge in a mulled-wine hue before the Christmas markets spring up. Or, for something even more cosseting (inspired by the non-drinkers), try a rich ‘warm hot chocolate‘ shade, which is becoming just as popular.

How to wear it

There’s no rulebook on the shape or length of your nails this season, but to stay on-trend, a super glossy finish is the preferred way to wear this statement-yet-flattering mani. The added shine from a top coat will provide an instantly expensive feel or, to maximise the effect, look to a varnish with a slight shimmer in the paint too. That’s especially helpful if you struggle with slightly chapped, red hands in the winter, as the added shine will reflect even more light, leaving your skin looking radiant.
