With these ten autumn outfit formula ideas from the Citizen Femme team, transitioning into the new season has never looked chicer.
Here, the CF team share the products they’re reaching for and the pieces they rely on for wardrobe foundations this season.

My go to are the classic basics such as Agolde jeans, a staple shirt and a boucle jacket. I’ll switch my ballet pumps for Gucci Horsebit loafers or Aquazzura boots, and colder days require this Jigsaw pure brushed wool coat that makes any outfit look polished.

Although I am six months pregnant, I haven’t wanted to change my personal style much – so for me this autumn has been about finding ways to stay true to my style whilst dressing a growing bump! Straight leg jeans are my usual go-to, so I’ve switched them up for a bigger size that sits neatly under the bump, and am teaming them with my usual stretchy bodysuits for comfort – I love the butter soft ones from Commando. I like to elevate outfits with outerwear, so a statement jacket is key – I am really into cropped ones at the moment, like this one from Malina. I’m finishing off with burgundy ballet pumps whilst the weather is still warm enough; this pair from Le Monde Beryl are my favourite purchase so far.

This autumn I’m living in these pleat-front wide-leg trousers from Marks & Spencer, which are brilliant at going from day-to-night. Pair with a crisp white T-shirt, cropped jacket and gold buckle belt for work and then swap in a silk top and statement earrings for evening cocktails. On the weekends with a playground-loving toddler it’s all about affordable cashmere plus a field jacket for staying cosy.

I’m based in Greece where the days are still quite warm, so my autumn outfit formula looks slightly different to how it might in the UK at this time of year. That said, I’ve switched sandals for ballet pumps and shorts for thin trousers. I’m also all about layering for the cooler evenings; I’d never leave for dinner without a thin sweater or scarf at this time of year.

Here’s my confession: I don’t actually own a single pair of jeans. In fact, it’s rare to even see me in trousers, and that doesn’t change in the wintertime, when you can still spot me wearing my trusty floral-print RIXO dresses. My trick to wearing dresses all year round is simple: a good pair of tights, leather boots, and a cosy combination of scarves and wrap coats that cocoon me up, as if I’m inside a blanket.

For off-duty dressing, I always reach for an oversized hoodie and pair it with good quality leggings, Adanola is a firm favourite for activewear. I love a cosy fit that looks cute and will keep me warm, so I will layer with a puffer coat and finish with cool sneakers for the perfect athleisure outfit.

Isn’t it great when the colour you already love becomes the colour of the season? Burgundy has long been a favourite of mine so this autumn I’m fully embracing all things rich and wine toned. Even my socks! (Colourful Standard are my go to for those; they have every colour you could think of). Like all busy mums I live in my jeans, but I like an outfit that’s smart enough to take me from the school run to office, so I’ll opt for a great pair of wide-leg jeans, a cashmere sweater, a blazer, smart trainers and a slouchy bag. I can always add a low-heeled boot and some statement gold earrings if I need to take it up a notch.

My ultimate staple is a pair of vintage, tailored trousers. Vestiaire has lots of exciting Saint Laurent options, but an equally timeless option is the Harry Trouser by Soeur, in the hazelnut wool herringbone. On top, I opt for a timeless blouse and, for shoes, ballet flats are this season’s top choice and Loeffler Randall do them best. The Khaite Cordelia jacket will carry me through the unpredictable autumn weather, and it transitions so well from day to night during this busy event season. Finally, for a pop of colour, I always carry a silk scarf with me to wear on my bag, neck or in my hair.

I am loving the leopard print trend this season, so my current autumn outfit formula is a leopard print blouse, a leather skirt and ankle boots. I finish off my look with blood red nails and a tailored jacket.

I’m a jeans and knitwear girl through and through – classic denim, a soft knit and an oversized blazer will always be my go-to formula for autumn. This season, I’m lusting after Frame’s ‘the bubble’ jeans in the dorado wash, as well as having my eye on a chocolate brown suede blazer from De Savary London. I bought a baby blue Lisa Yang cashmere jumper last year, which I’ll be bringing out of hibernation now that there’s a definite chill in the air.
