A Guide To NYC In Autumn With Jordan Foster Of Favorite Daughter

Golden leaves cover the paths that snake through Central Park, there’s a crisp breeze in the air as you walk along the Hudson, and fashion-savvy city dwellers are pounding the pavements in their best trench coats and leather boots.

Autumn in New York captures the magic of the bustling metropolis in all its seasonal splendour, and it’s no surprise that celebrity stylist and fashion industry veteran Jordan Foster’s love for the city continues to grow year after year.

Though born and raised in LA, Foster moved to New York City after stints in Switzerland and London. “NYC makes me feel alive. City life is tough and it weeds the weak out, especially in NYC. I love the challenges that the city brings and the rewards those who stick it out receive in the form of incredible parks, amazing food, and secret treasures that you find after living here for a long time. I feel like I have the best of both worlds here because even though the city is filled with millions of people, you can still feel a sense of community,” she says.

She’s dressed some notable names such as Ashley Graham, Karlie Kloss and Kate Upton, but now spends her time raising her young family and as the Style Director of Favorite Daughter, the fashion brand she launched with her sisters Erin and Sara (who have been making waves in the entertainment industry recently as writer and producer of the smash hit Netflix series Nobody Wants This). “Nothing makes me happier than someone stopping me to say they love FD,” shares Foster. “And as a fashion girl, nothing is better than wanting something in my wardrobe and being able to ask our designer to make it!”

Read on as Foster divulges her favourite autumnal spots in the city that never sleeps.

What makes autumn a great time of year to visit NYC?

The crispness in the air, and the excitement of everyone in the streets – who are happy that the humid summer is over and that Thanksgiving and Christmas are approaching!

Our first pitstop should be…

Pastries and coffee at Rigor Hill in Tribeca.

Your favourite hotel to check-in at is…

Fouquet’s in Tribeca.

For an early morning workout head to…

Forward Space and The Class.

Where can we find the best coffee?

Interlude in Tribeca. They have the best matcha too.

Where should we go for breakfast?

Salt’s Cure if with friends, or Bubby’s if I’m with my kids and husband. We go every Sunday morning.

How about for a long, lazy lunch?

Sant Ambroeus in the West Village.

Your favourite restaurant in town?

Altro Paradiso.

And for dinner with friends?

There are so many incredible spots in NYC, it’s hard to choose one.  I often go to Altro Paradiso mainly because it is so consistently delicious, but when I’m branching out, it would be a spot like The Corner Store, Rezdôra, or Lilia.

The best place for people watching…

Cecconi’s downtown.

Where can I go shopping?

Soho, below Spring Street and between West Broadway and Mott Street. You’ll find all the stores you know and love plus some really well curated multi-brand boutiques. Plus, there’s amazing people watching.

Best vintage spots?

What Goes Around Comes Around, The Vintage Twin and New York Vintage.

For the best views, head to…

Edge at Hudson Yards.

Best spot for sundowners?

The rooftop at Fouquet’s or Grand Banks on the water.

The tourist spot that’s actually worth the hype…

Prince Street Pizza and Central Park.

One place only locals know about…

I’d be crazy to share that!

A great day out with the kids includes…

Playing at one of the incredible parks along the Hudson River, lunch at Jack’s Wife Freda or a pizza delivery to the park from Upside Pizza, ice cream from Van Leeuwen, a nap, spontaneously running into friends in our neighbourhood, watching a movie.

Your favourite neighbourhoods…

Tribeca, West Village and Soho.

Great day trips include…

The Hudson Valley — there’s incredible shopping, food, and beautiful nature. Storm King Art Centre is also a great outing for both adults and kids.

What’s the dress code?

Casual but polished.
