Let 2024 be the year you take full advantage of an epic Black Friday deal, to indulge in something that will stay with you for a long while after the weekend passes. A holiday on Niyama Private Islands is about as exclusive and luxurious as it gets, and you can save up to 40 per cent on this trip of a lifetime here when you travel with Scott Dunn. In the heart of the Indian Ocean in the island nation of the Maldives, Niyama Private Islands is well, just that. While the Maldives offers an abundance of resorts, Niyama stands out to us thanks to its completely individual concept; split across two islands with two separate vibes, ‘chill’ and ‘play’, your preferences will be matched from the moment you touch down via a private seaplane. Stretched across the famously clear oceans, the chill side of the island offers a peaceful retreat in the natural rhythms of the lapping ocean waves, where you can while away the days from your villa’s private pool, before booking yourself into the Drift Spa or enjoying yoga classes on the white sandy beaches. Hop across to the ‘play’ island, where villas are tucked onto the beach for direct access to long walks along the lengthy shores – perfect for active couples or families – and where you’ll find an excellent Explorers Kids Club that Scott Dunn is renowned for. The private island resort is made of 134 luxury studios and pavilions, each with direct access to the beach or lagoon, so it’s impossible to go wrong. With the help of these travel experts, you can treat yourself, a partner or close friend by luxing out with this well-deserved trip away for really, the best possible price you’ll ever get.

With political censorship in theatre making headlines – from Manchester’s Royal Exchange cancelling A Midsummer Nights Dream due to concerns about how it covered issues around Palestine, to playwright Patrick Marber having his venue rescind an offer to host his play; ‘What We Talk About When We Talk About Anne Frank’ for fear of inciting protests – “Cutting the Tightrope: The Divorce of Politics from Art” at the Arcola Theatre in London is a powerful, entertaining and opinionated piece of theatre from voices forming an urgent response to the creeping repression of dissent voices in society and the arts. This work brings together 14 diverse, award-winning playwrights with a wide range of political perspectives, from activists to comedians, Russian to Iraqi heritage, and Jewish to Muslim backgrounds. Structured so that contributors have a voice without fear of personal rebuttal (the playwrights names are advertised, but who wrote which play will remain unknown), artists feel like there can be freedom of expression without direct backlash. With a selection of post show discussions to attend, these works are openly proud to express topics that are so often silenced and that influence our lives.

Although a historically American tradition, Thanksgiving has become a notable event in British calendars. Whether you’re an American in London, or you’re celebrating with American friends, many London restaurants have compiled fine feasting menus to celebrate. Trio of restaurants – The Cadogan Arms and The George in Chelsea, and the new Chiswick-based gastropub, The Hound – has unveiled its Thanksgiving menus. On 28 November, the one-day-only menu will feature traditional Thanksgiving delights, including prawn cocktail, spiced pumpkin soup and cheddar popovers to start, followed by a show-stopping, bronze Turkey and pomegranate molasses roast ham served with all the traditional trimmings: corn bread, baked sweet potatoes and marshmallows, sage and onion stuffing, spinach gratin and green bean casserole. Leave room to sample the two special desserts: The Oreo Cheesecake and Pecan Pie, both served with whipped cream.
