Here's What The Citizen Femme Team Are Wearing On Christmas Day

Still to decide what to wear on Christmas Day? The good news is that there are no real rules when it comes to deciding what sartorial route to go down for the big day.

Every family has their own traditions that dictate the level of glamour. For some, the 25th of December is best spent in loungewear, while for others it’s a great excuse to dress up. Whatever you do, choose an outfit that leans into the magic and indulgence of the festivities, be it your pyjamas or a high-octane dress, that can be worn for years to come.

For outfit-elevating, easy accents, think about the details – a crystal hair clip, a statement necklace or a sparkly heel that can be kicked off under the table when it comes to dinner.

At Citizen Femme HQ, it’s a real mix. Our founder and editor will be in the Caribbean wearing a beach-ready sundress, while our beauty editor is spending her Christmas Day in a gown. Here, the team share what they’ve chosen to wear on the big day. From statement jewellery to fairisle knits, scroll to see what we’ve picked.

Ella Mansell, Editorial Assistant

“I’ll be spending Christmas in Cornwall this year, so while I like to dress up, I also want to stay warm. This means a colourful knitwear piece – Soeur or Sézane are my current go-to brands – and a favourite pair of jeans. I’ll dress it up with gold ballet pumps, a nod to festive cheer without the cheese.”

Becki Murray, Beauty Editor

“This year, my family have decided to go all-out and dress in black tie for Christmas lunch. We’re always trying to keep the fun of the festive season alive, so choosing high glamour felt right. I’m going for a sweeping red gown with a high neckline and perilously tall stilettos. I’ll be sat down most of the day anyway, so high heels are a safe option!”

Rachel Story, Style and Commerce Director

“My husband, son and I like a lazy Christmas morning in pyjamas, where you’ll find me eating Quality Street for breakfast in my Olivia von Halle silky co-ords. Come lunchtime, I’ll change into a chocolate-coloured leather trousers from Malina, and a cashmere jumper. To add extra wow, I’ll wear my wedding shoes – a pair of transparent Amina Muaddi heels embellished with crystals. They’re very modern Cinderella.”

Sheena Bhattessa, Founder and Editor

“Since I’m doing Christmas in the Caribbean, its beach-wear. I still like to keep the red theme going, so I have this crimson dress that I wore last year and will rewear this year from the brand Posse. It’s very comfortable with an elegant low back and ideal for the climate with a pair of slip-ons. My go-to style are from Amanu, kicked off once we get to lunch at the beach.”

Ella Alexander, Fashion Features Director

“I’m all about comfort and joy on Christmas Day, which is why I like a sequinned party skirt, cosy knitwear and a statement necklace. I do love a special shoe, which this year come in the form of ruffle-trimmed Manolos. If I’m honest with myself, these will probably be abandoned for slides by midday.”

Morag Turner, Citizen Enfants Editor

“I’ll be heading north for a wonderful, traditional Christmas in the Highlands with all my family. From carol singing in the village square and (hopefully snowy!) walks in the countryside, to mince pies by the roaring fire and endless fun games with my boys and nieces and nephews, it’s a very cosy Scottish Christmas which I absolutely love. On the day itself, I’m be in a chic and warm fairisle sweater from Varley and my trusty Grenson Nanette boots – and I’ll add a bit of festive sparkle with the Pavé Diamond Stevie Hoops from Mejuri.”
